The best covers of all time?

Well, "the best cover ever" is such a subjective decision I don't see that there can be a definitive answer.
I can suggest a song that definitely isn't:

Perhaps Radio Times isn't the ideal medium to hold a poll.

Janis Joplin has been mentioned on here before for her covers, but one that I think was wonderful was her interpretation of Summertime originally written by the Gershwin brothers for Porgy and Bess. A brilliant version.

Summertime has been covered over 1600 times, second only to Yesterday by Lennon and McCartney which, at over 2200 covers, tops the list.

Just been playing the Rolling Stones' version of Hi-Heel Sneakers. It's a brilliant cover of the Tommy Tucker original.
