I recall some whispers many years ago, that BBC (and ITV) coverage of The Falklands war was deliberately biased in the UK's favour, under orders from HMG. A short programme had a few minutes airing and discussion, but was then put back in storage.
Although the UK got jingo'istic and fairly upbeat (in the circumstances) coverage, it avoided detailed analysis of what the Argentinians had achieved, in order to (misre)present how close they were to actually 'winning'.
That's no disrespect to our servicepeople. because they'll tell you how tough it was.
Lying and misrepresenting started before TV. TV and internet, just made it easier and more profitable
