Should OG walk

The deal was that Guehi would stay if no replacement. We got no replacement. Guehi was not sold. The deal was honoured.

If you believe the bollocks about Glasner threatening Parish, you must be naive. How would that even reach a reporter?
If being naive means believing that Glasner was instrumental in Guehi not moving, well yes I confess to being naive.

In fact Glasner said the agreement reached in March was that Palace should have a replacement lined up for the beginning of July so the player could be integrated during pre season. You may of course choose to disbelieve his words but I don’t.

What wasn’t in people’s minds in March was replacing England’s best centre back with Brighton’s 4th choice centre back just hours from the window closing.
Talk about amateur hour.

I disagree wholeheartedly. I respect what Mr P has done for our club, but at this point in our history we need to retain the best manager we've ever seen at Selhurst.

And, although the potential deal was for a sum of £35m, remember that Chelsea would have received £7m of it, and I reckon Marc is worth a lot more than £28m to us.
20% of the profit so £3.4m to Chelsea.

Maybe Ollie didn't fancy Igor, who got that impression at his medical (I don't know if he actually talked to OG). However if he did get the vibe that OG wasn't that keen can you blame him for going to Wet Spam.

He was after all looking for game time.

There is some chatter online that we were after Igor and Pavlovic.

Pavlovic was the Guehi replacement, Igor was a bit of a sticking plaster that just knew the league and could help out.

Chat online was that we pulled the deal on Igor, not that he jumped to WH, nor that he was ever the MG replacement.

Glasner said at the time of the agreement with the club back in March it was known that Eze’s release clause could be activated and that’s why there was agreement that a replacement needed to be found i.e fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
As it happened, the clause expired but the club decided to cash in anyway.

On Guehi, when it was clear that he wouldn’t sign a new contract, the club actively looked to sell him. The story is that Guehi had reached agreement some weeks ago on personal terms with Liverpool and this was the destination he wanted.

I think it will work out and Guehi and Glasner will knuckle down after the international break.
But this last day fiasco was avoidable if proper preparation had occurred.
Players have all the power in todays football world, look at the antics of Isak and Wissa. Guehi would of gone, if Brightons 5th choice CB hadn't turned us down in favour of W.Ham. Guehi seems a decent lad, but wants to better himself, you can't blame Parish for his ambition, but I expect he will still give 100% to Palace whilst he is here.
Agreements in footballs crazy world mean nothing

Moving forwards, we really need some guidance from our senior shareholders on what their aspirations are for CPFC.
In the modern game, it is now nearly all money driven. We are very fortunate to have three very rich, powerful and experienced American shareholders.
Admittedly the third member Woody Johnston has only just joined by removing Textor ( a dubious character at best) for some $200M and securing a 43% stake in the process.
I believe our three senior shareholders and Parish now need to get together to discuss our activities since Woody joined and decide how they want to move Palace forwards. I can't believe they are happy with our actions over the past two months. They have been knee jerk reactions without any proper planning.
The club needs to draw up some clear policies and plans to take us forward in a direction they want us to go. We really can't afford to carry on as we have through the past few weeks.
As fans, but complete outsiders to our owners plans, judging by the activity on here most of us have been quite shocked by this. I believe it is in the interest of the club and its owners to for them to let us know as soon as possible how they are planning to advance things from today. They have bought into a great club with an extraordinary history with a fan base that has built an amazing reputation around the world of football and beyond.
We have got a quality base of fans, players, team management and club management to build upon. It clearly needs significant funding to progress positively and that responsibility lies fully with the shareholders.
Hopefully they are fully aware of this and we will start to see/hear how they are planning to take 'our' great club forwards. They have a fantastic opportunity at their feet this morning. It will be very interesting through the next few months to see how they react.

Parish did “have a replacement lined up for the beginning of July” - this was Guessard. Unfortunately Liverpool messed around till 30 August before putting in an offer. So Parish stuck to his half of the deal and blocked the sale when it was clear that Liverpool had left it so late that all of the replacements he had lined up had gone.

How are they going to change things moving forwards? The Premier League is stacked in favour of the big clubs to stop other getting near them with PSR. Newcastle have the richest owners in the world can't compete with them due to PSR. Yes, we have 3 billionaire owners, but they cant just throw loads of money in, it has to be self generated by the club, thats why the new stand is sought after.

You possibly mean Diomande rather than Guessard, who was rumoured to be seen as the proposed replacement for Eze.

On the broader point, it's clear that Glasner's view was that the agreement was not fulfilled.Screenshot_20250902_071700_Chrome.webp

our little stadium and little revenue on match-days......its a pain in the neck. We will always be a small club because of it. For contrast, look at little Everton. The second team in a smallish city. Their weekly gate would put us to shame.

the choice is stark, sell stadium seats or sell Guehi

What wasn’t in anybody’s minds, until it happened, were all the implications of us winning the cup, playing in Europe but then being shafted by UEFA. It affected how we saw things, how other clubs thought they could treat us and whether players wanted to come.

So much as I respect Glasner and the job he is doing I think he is either being naive or disingenuous with remarks about agreements in March that were upended by events in May, or those remarks were calculated and coordinated with Parish to achieve an outcome.

I hope, and believe, it’s the latter. If it’s the former then I suspect Parish will be pretty upset with him for making such comments in public when they should only ever be said in private. If any employee of mine had tried to manipulate me like that then they would have been shown the door, no matter how valuable others might think they are.

However, surely Dunk is their actual worst centre back

It think it's a touch naive from Oliver Glasner really.

For a club like Palace we simply can afford for players like Guehi to walk away next year for nothing. If we did, then we would have far less money to find a suitable replacement.

I would have thought that Glasner would have been aware of the type of club we are, ie. We do not have the spending power of the likes of the top clubs. Also, our players will want to join those top clubs if they come calling. That's where we sit in the chain.

Unless, of course, promises were made to him which we have not been informed upon.

Obviously, the Leverkusen job has become available today, again they have sold many of their best players.

I think he will see out his contract and then next year he will doubt have some bigger clubs come calling.
It’s weak management from the board and for Guehi to go through a medical then have it pulled because (if true) Glasner would offer his resignation is unforgivable. There should have been a decisive decision made in the boardroom either way given the discussions supposedly had with OG in March and then to target the profile of player that the manager wanted, that’s constructive planning.
It was clear in the on the pitch interviews at Selhurst after the Fredericks match that 2 minds were not thinking alike …. SP we must sell and OG he must stay. What did that look like on National TV?
For this still to be the case up until the 7pm and beyond defies belief.
It could only happen at the Palace.
Let’s hope we are already turning our sights on the next manager for next Summer which, may have been a lot sooner.

How do we know Glasner wasn't happy with Igor, with their History, and when it broke down Parish honoured Glasners view of we could not sell Guehi with out Igor signing.
Uhmm why then as reported on virtually all media this morning did Glasner have to resort to threatening to walk if Guehi was sold.
To me this has all the signs of Parish actioning the transfer after he knew the Igor signing wouldn’t happen and this triggering OG’s ultimatum.

Everton prior to moving stadiums had similar overall revenue to palace. I expect revenue increased substantially with the move

You could be right, but it seems unlikely because Guehi is England's best centre back and Igor was Brighton's 4th choice injury prone centre back.
I don't think even Igor's family would see Igor as an adequate replacement for Guehi.
We would be taking a backward step.
As Glasner starkly put it, the club had a choice as to whether it wanted a successful season or not.

Glasner also believed that the understanding with the club was that the replacement would be in place in July for pre season, not a few hours before the end of the window.
