Should OG walk

It think it's a touch naive from Oliver Glasner really.

For a club like Palace we simply can afford for players like Guehi to walk away next year for nothing. If we did, then we would have far less money to find a suitable replacement.

I would have thought that Glasner would have been aware of the type of club we are, ie. We do not have the spending power of the likes of the top clubs. Also, our players will want to join those top clubs if they come calling. That's where we sit in the chain.

Unless, of course, promises were made to him which we have not been informed upon.

Obviously, the Leverkusen job has become available today, again they have sold many of their best players.

I think he will see out his contract and then next year he will doubt have some bigger clubs come calling.

Palace are not in the possion of being able to turn down £35m I hope now OG leaves.
In Parish I trust Managers come and go and it is time for OG to go. .

Why is it so difficult to believe?
Glasner has given interview after interview in recent weeks calling out broken promises frkm.the club.
This culminated in the two most recent interviews when he went on record that Guehi should not and cannot be sold.
It seemed today that Parish was going to go against Glasner's wishes and sell Guehi anyway.

Glasner is a serious professional and if his professional advice is continually undermined and ignored I could genuinely see him thinking 'what's the point?'

Ultimately it's not about Glasner v Parish, it's about what's best for the club.
In simple terms we're likely to have a better season with Guehi as captain and key defensive perforner rather than without him.
That might be so but is that worth £35Million quid? Not selling him for £35Million quid when we had the chance is like paying a £35Million quid loan fee for him for the rest of the season before he walks. That's at least a million quid for each game he plays. No player is worth that. Thought Parish had more sense than that.

Or you could say we paid £18 million to get 4 years from an England International, winning two trophies in the process and becoming forever etched into the Palace history books.

He’ll get on with it until the first bigger job offer comes along. Should be within the next month.
Been shafted by the Board.
Here we are 2 hours left rummaging around in the bargain bucket to try and replace our club captain.
Complete lack of ambition by the Board to try and improve their investment.

I think Glasner and Parish now need to take a step back and let things simmer for a while.

Just aswell we don't have any press conferences for a while.

Simon Jordan will be on one tomorrow.

In Steve Parish I trust Managers come and go . We are not in a position that we can turn down £35m. Palace is not in the same financial league as a Chelsea , Liverpool or others and we supporters have to be realistic. If we let Managers run the club we would out of business and football pretty dam quick . OG will move on and forget Crystal Palace in a heartbeat

I disagree wholeheartedly. I respect what Mr P has done for our club, but at this point in our history we need to retain the best manager we've ever seen at Selhurst.

And, although the potential deal was for a sum of £35m, remember that Chelsea would have received £7m of it, and I reckon Marc is worth a lot more than £28m to us.

I'm in no way knocking the chairman but they are two separate jobs. The chairman doesn't pick the team, run the training, decide the tactics or have responsibility for man management. We've had the most successful season in our history and it's down to Oliver Glasner.

To say Glasner is attempting to run the club is a gross exaggeration.

He said the agreement he had with the club was that key players wouldn’t be sold without replacements and it appears that the club were attempting to renege on that.
His professional opinion is that the club would be taking a backward step in selling Guehi without a proper replacement- is that wrong?
The lessons to be learnt are by the club.
Stop trying to replace one of the best centre backs in the Premier League at the 11th hour with a 4th choice Brighton centre back if you want to keep an excellent manager on board.

The not selling until a replacement is in place point is moot when there's a release clause in place like with Eze. If it's triggered how do we stop a player leaving?

I think that’s why the release clause date ends a week or 2 before the end of the transfer window. People have argued it gave Spurs the opportunity to wait and offer less. Well it also gives the owning club the opportunity to turn it down and/or sell for higher with less time to find a replacement. That’s future planning.

This Guehi handling was a bit shambolic but I bet Glasner goes as a free man next summer whatever happens. Still doesn’t excuse being minutes away from Guehi leaving without a replacement.

Yes, but if the full amount of the release clause is offered early in the window there still won't be a replacement in place. Not to say it's likely to happen but it could.

Glasner said at the time of the agreement with the club back in March it was known that Eze’s release clause could be activated and that’s why there was agreement that a replacement needed to be found i.e fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
As it happened, the clause expired but the club decided to cash in anyway.

On Guehi, when it was clear that he wouldn’t sign a new contract, the club actively looked to sell him. The story is that Guehi had reached agreement some weeks ago on personal terms with Liverpool and this was the destination he wanted.

I think it will work out and Guehi and Glasner will knuckle down after the international break.
But this last day fiasco was avoidable if proper preparation had occurred.
