Romain Esse

I can't see us signing someone who is going to supplant Eze, JP or Sarr straight away so it really is about strengthening our bench from an attacking perspective. With the 5 subs rule it's not about signing backup players anymore, it's about giving the team depth so that we have options. You look at Bournemouth and Fulham, for example, and they have first-team quality options ready to come in and make a difference in the last half hour.

We are in the perfect position to sign someone like Esse or Doak as the 5 subs rule means they will likely get plenty of game time even if they don't start and they can be bedded in ready to make a real push next season. Short-term planning is what left us with the oldest squad in the league in Roy's first stint. Thankfully the club has successfully moved beyond that. I think the other thing to note with Esse is that Millwall fans are talking about him as a generational talent, similar to how Reading spoke about Olise, QPR with Eze and Blackburn with Wharton. I think he'll be Rolls Royce if we get him.

If he does sign, let's keep in mind that it takes players time to get used to Glasner's tactics. Having him for half a season playing his part here and there is probably really good preperation for him to feature heavily next season, especially if we flog Eze in the summer.

Agreed. It feels like we’ve found our niche in this league. If Dougie can keep identifying young gems from the Championship and we give them game time along with the occasional success from our own academy then we have a decent model to develop as a club. The facilities at Copers Cope are a plus and if we can finally get that new stand built the future looks bright.
I would love to see Doak at Selhurst but if we’re signing young relatively untried players we need to shop in a “sensible” (probably not the right term in this crazy market)price range of around £20 million.

Once they introduced 5 subs the game was no longer eleven against eleven, but sixteen against sixteen. This helped the wealthy clubs because they could afford quality in every position. Palace are still catching up but getting there.

Aren't Rak-Sakyi stats better than Esse's this season?
Maybe playing for a more successful team helps his stats. Most players look pretty good in their highlights but he does look to have a few tricks.
Looking at a Millwall site there are a few posts about how he's been carrying them this season.

We should sell, get a decent fee for him while we can. He’s never going to be good enough for the Prem.
I think it would work out all round. He’s 22 and needs to be playing regularly if he’s going to establish his career. He’s not going to get into our first eleven and is probably not going to make the subs bench that often. His best bet is to go to a good Championship club. He will play, get a decent wage and could play in the EPL if they get promoted. We should sell especially if his loan at Shef Utd works out. Would be looking to get a decent fee for him.
