I've said from the start I'd be very happy to see Esse join us. He has a confidence in his play, seems able to find space and is full of potential. £12 million would be a steal.

We need players who can adapt to the PL now and not next season i would rather have doak than esse as doak seems moreof an olise type of player and esse isnt PL ready and doak is
I totally understand your thinking given that we have only won 4 games all season and are not too removed from the relegation zone.We need players who can adapt to the PL now and not next season i would rather have doak than esse as doak seems moreof an olise type of player and esse isnt PL ready and doak is
One more:I don't really understand the logic of buying 'cover'. This is especially the case in January.
1st team acquisitions come in the following categories :
Are ready to challenge for the first team
Can develop to be ready for the first team
To pad out the squad in case of injury(i.e Cover).
As a general rule we should always be buying players in those first 2 categories. (In January, I'd question the logic of the 2nd category too). new signings should provide competition and improve the 1st team, either through being a better player, or by forcing the current 1st team to improve. This is a better way of buying 'cover' for a position.
The premise of buying only for 'cover' only should only be done in rare occasions, such as last resorts when it's negligent to not have it. We have 'cover' all over the pitch - we need the 1st team to be better or it's somewhat of a waste of money. This is especially true in January.
If Esse isn't ready to challenge (Sarr?) for a 1st team spot, then the only reason to buy him now is because he will be ready come the 25/26 season, and we do not want to miss out in the Summer.
if not, there are other priorities. like Doak, who is ready*
*please note that i'm ignorant of the qualities of both players, and their readiness for PL football!
I believe he signed a new contract recently so I suspect you are right.Various sites are claiming he has a £12 m release clause without which he wouldn't have signed for them. Looks as though they might have been Olised. Maybe a slight concern - if we do sign him will he insist on another release clause?
He is left-footed though - maybe the plan is to play him on the other side? The Millwall manager , Alex Neil, in his pre FA Cup manager press conference, confirmed that Palace want Esse.
If we get him, I can't see us buying another right sided forward (e g Doak, Fellows).
If we were to get a LWB and possibly Bellingham too, that would be a decent window
All 'ifs' at the moment of course.
Have you seen the replies on X? Is the Chris Armstrong one a fake or wind up?
One of the all time great away performances. Still remember watching that on TV. They had three ex Wolves players and grandees in the studio clearly expecting them to win. We thumped them. Such a shame modern goal net set ups mean we don’t get to see the ball lodged in the goal frame anymore like happen a couple of times in that gameHave you seen the replies on X? He was a great player - that’s goal away to wolves in the f a cup is one of the all time great palace goals
What a player he was, bought from Millwall for £1million, I remember when we played them the following season when we won the league, they were right up there too, he scored the only goal with a diving header and done a proper celebration at Selhurst, none of this not celebrating nonsense.Have you seen the replies on X?
