Reform

Musk at best is a fair weather friend, I would prefer that he doesn't get involved in British politics, the right can screw themselves up without help.

I do worry this might have some impact but Farage needs to stick to his principles

Yeah, let's carry on building mosques and jailing those who were talking about the rape gangs back in 2011....long before the Times were bothered (even though the reporter who broke the story admitting having heard about it years prior and turning away from it).

Most of them knew.

I don't like several aspects about Robinson but personally if only for that one issue, I'd knight the guy.

More balls than Farage by a country mile and I might add will have a significant amount of support amongst the Reform base.

Who I might add Thatcherites like Farage think they are somehow morally superior to.

I am watching the Kuenssberg programme on catch up and just seen the Farage interview.

He is right about why people are supporting Reform! It’s the same old reason that people believe that change will always be better than what they have. They are indeed angry and dissatisfied. They blame past governments and immigration for everything. Not pandemics, Putin or Brexit.

The problem is that they don’t actually look beyond their anger at what Reform/Farage are suggesting they would do with any objectivity. They just want it to be true.

Should they look they would realise it is all more hot air. Their “manifesto “ is no more than populist propaganda. It’s completely unrealistic. Just a long wish list that even Santa would laugh at.

Farage’s defence of Musk will come back to bite him. There is no general sympathy for either Trump or Musk in the UK. That which is found in these pages is very unusual. Even Farage acknowledged there is a limit to free speech. Which ought, in my opinion, now be extended to ensuring that the owners of social media platforms cannot manipulate the algorithms they own to ensure their own voice gets amplified. That’s not free speech. It’s propaganda.
no sympathy for Trump or Musk in the UK? You know this how? From a poll at the bowls club?

Oddly enough, with the belief that the Far-Right are now the only viable option for saving this country, I don't actually disagree with your sentiment. Getting very, very uneasy now about what we are seeing from the US over this.

I don't disagree with any the shock and horror by the way about the grooming scandal, and loathe the Left for being utterly scumbag collaborators in allowing it to happen and even now, seeking to downplay it.

But this now goes beyond that. This is a British problem. And Britain lives or dies on this hill, as does Europe. My brothers and sisters on the continent are the ones we need to look to on this. Not the US.

Well it hasn't taken long for the issues that dogged the Conservatives to crop up in Reform...

Some want to move a bit further right than others.

I think Reform has a problem, well two. Tommy and Elon.

A lot of Reform members support arch Grifter Steven Yaxley Lennon and believe he is a source of all truth and wisdom. Nigel clearly doesn't and as he owns Reform lock stock and barrel what he says goes. He would never tolerate such a visible leader who might eclipse him.

Musk is an more unusual one as he has come out against Farage today and seems to be dipping his toes in UK politics. He seems to like SYL and has the cash to disrupt.

I will watch with interest

We clearly shouldn't have fought that second world war, just opened the door and ushered Hitler in.

No, instinct backed up by national polling evidence.

Have you seen the light and become a rejoiner?

The way the US behaved last year, and Musk/Trump have into this, means the need to build close ties with the EU, leading to an eventual formal association if not actual membership, is becoming an imperative.

Beyond that, if the USA continues on its current trajectory, I can imagine the EU being left little choice other than to look elsewhere for alliances.

The world doesn’t have an infinite list of countries. Who else then? Mars or Jupiter ffs.
For defence the rest of the world hates the west, well the Muslim world anyway.
For trade the same so dream on if you think Africa or Russia are the answer.
The USA has to be an ally end of.

Could even be a little bit of smoke and daggers?

Make it seem that musk won't donate to reform now to stop labour putting a stop to it?

Sure who knows

Not if it continues in the way it is.

Europe will need to look elsewhere. Asia being the most obvious.

And when they say no, who then?
Why would they say no?

The relationships already exist. They would just require strengthening.

There are unlikely to be absolutes or cliff edges. Rather a gradual tilting of emphasis. If the USA looks inward and starts a trade war then the EU will need to react. We will then need to get off the fence and decide. If it looks like Trump like attitudes will continue then we will have no choice.

The US is Britain's biggest single trading partner. Around 17 or 18 % of the UK's total trade.

Aside from that there is the US military protection and intelligence and security links.....which are basically tied at the hip, not perhaps as much as Mossad is.....but in all practical purposes it is.

I would actually like the latter to change somewhat as I believe it compromises the British and by extension Europe in many ways.

However, these things are much bigger than disastrous parties like Labour, most likely for a single term.....or even if you see things the other way much bigger than a Trump presidency.
