Prof Jason Arday

It was more than confrontational, you called me a bigot for some strange reason.

But genuine condolences on your loss if you knew the guy, whatever the rights and wrongs of this debacle it's always terrible to lose someone to suicide.

The true villain on the piece here is the DEI and woke agenda, elevating this chap to a position he should never have been in. RIP Jason.

Yep, unless all this stuff was untrue....which I regard as highly unlikely then the criticism was warranted.

However, as we have said previously he lied and lied, but he hadn't murdered anyone, he pushed his luck in the system and the system didn't care, it embraced him. His apparent suicide is a horrible outcome.

The main focus needs to be on the system that failed....He could have started again somewhere but chose not to.

The sad thing is that he really did have a story. Apparently it has been confirmed that he was non verbal at school and to overcome that regardless of skin colour is a fantastic achievement.

It sounds like that educationally he was average but then that is nothing to be ashamed of considering his issues. Unfortunately rather than settling for that he and the "system" decided to over promote him.

Fair enough, but are we to trust that he didn't use his identity in other ways? Ticking so many boxes is like a research funding dream these days. Which every academic and institution is aware of. Even science research will include gender and diversity proposals now - or not get funded. Here in lies the issue.

Fair enough. Cambridge only makes a million quid a day in tuition fees and those Sharpies aren't free.

Here's transcript from Talking Matters podcast with Nick Halkes, recorded in 2021 where Arday claims he played for Palace for 'a handful of years' from the age of 18.

He was born in 1985 so from around 2003/04 season when Dowie was in charge, he claimed he was playing in a 'youth stream' for the club. Someone must remember him? He was a goalie. There must be some record of his playing for several years - even if just in a teammates memory?

Have you seen the Carter Ruck letter last September to the editor of the The Times Education paper, worth googling

Don't be silly. The villains are those who called him out and those who put him there

All good on that side, I don't wear any, but thanks for looking out.

My comment was admittedly a little confrontational. I knew Jason when we were at university and remember him as a very warm-hearted person, so I'm treating him based on the person I knew, rather than joining in with some of the characterisations. It's not a thread I should have engaged in.

I could see how this was heading from last week. RIP.
The guy might well have been 'nice'. I have known nice people who were frauds and liars. One became pretty famous as a result.
Arday lied his way through life and paid the ultimate price. Those who promoted him should be ashamed of themselves. He didn't get where he was without those who put identity politics before sense. We don't know the full details yet so any further comment would be premature.

I have one picking point with this video. Did he actually lie about having autism? I know the non verbal stuff has been disputed but this is the first time I have heard of him apparently lying about having the disability itself. I have a disability myself which I can very easily prove with doctors notes ect. If he actually had autism surely that can be easily proved?

This is what really annoys me. If he did have autism lying is not an excuse. If he didn't have a disability then lying that you do is even worse.

I have 2 nephews who are both autistic, one has a masters in science and the other is just completing his PHD again in science*. I asked my brother who is a science teacher what his son's PHD is in and he said I'm not really sure I understand it myself but it is groundbreaking science that one day will be used by researchers as a tool to finding cures for cancer etc.

Anyway neither of them play the disability card and I suspect that there are many successful people on the spectrum who must likewise be irritated by his behaviour.

*I use that term because I am not sure which of the sciences.

There are many reasons why people excel in academia.
Natural ability
Paid extra tutorship
Superb lecturers
Some foreign students pay massive fees, which helps fund colleges/universities. These institutions will not fail foreign students.
Plagiarism
Arday seems to be quite an exception, as it would appear he has used multiple facets to simply blag his way through.
No doubt there are other imposters in academia, and certainly they will close ranks to avoid scrutiny, and retain funding.

Academia will do anything for money,...as Covid demonstrated.

This is definitely something I can relate to. I don't think I have mentioned it on these boards before but I am profoundly deaf, which means I have very little hearing ability, I rely almost solely on lip reading. It has never been in me to play the disability card to further my career, I feel it would be a slight on my capabilities, I believe I am capable of achieving whatever is put in front of me regardless of the inevitable barriers that my deafness puts up. Because of my pride, I want to be given a job on merit, not because of some card.

Good for you my friend.

Unfortunately in recent times I have twice seen firsthand, couple of friends effectively go out and 'buy' an ADHD diagnosis from a private 'clinic' so now they get to state they are disabled and earn favorable treatment at work. Thankfully the trend is increasingly facing scrutiny and Channel 4 will be running a documentary on it this week.

He looks absolutely nothing like a footballer, his build, his movement, his gait…NOTHING says to me that he was on the boos of a professional club.

What many on the left don't appreciate is that some of Arday's lies about himself are damaging to the public perception of what is possible in severe cases.

Many people are born with something wrong.....I was born as essentially one eyed, which kept me out of the Army, which was a big deal as we were very much a military family. As Jordan says, he's dealing with deafness, there are many people who have adjusted to physical issues.....but cognitive impairment is on another level.

Arday put out there on the public record that he couldn't speak until eleven....that he had the reading age of a nine year old when reaching university. The former is often a case of cognitive impairment and the latter is frankly impossible.

All this was lapped up and ignored because.....feels.

The fear of not being politically correct and being that person who says 'no', this is probably bullsh1t......indeed if you were that guy the system sought to harm you.

Indeed, we hear in the Guardian that Arday's school friends said he spoke without issues in primary school and was described as a chatty child who cracked jokes, put on voices/accents.

Well, I know of children and young teens who can't speak due to family and friends and in many cases we are dealing with levels of real cognitive delay and mental impairment, sometimes seriously so.
This isn't something that is shrugged off later on to the extent where you can....supposedly....compete with the brightest minds in the country and become a professor beating out people with high IQs from the start.

It does a severe disservice to those dealing with life-long impairment to suggest that a superman exists who can defeat mental impairment to that level. It gives succor to blank slant arguments that are lies and have been extremely damaging throughout history.

A lot of hard work is put in just to make the most capable of these actually vulnerable people reasonably self sufficient, it's a lot of work by a lot of hard working and well meaning people.....and it often doesn't succeed because these are severe issues.

The left talk a lot about 'vulnerable' people and a lot of the time it's racialised and grifter rubbish. However, when it comes to the genuinely cognitively impaired this is no joke and it harms by creating unrealistic expectations, which when not met can devastate.
