Could you explain, why after any defeat it's always Parish's fault. He doesn't pick the team, tactics or even play on the pitch?
I'm not anti SP but he does help pick the manager and those in charge of recruitment so he has an impact on tactics and the players who are available to be picked.
I do wonder about recruitment and how organised and professional the process is.
Dougie got loads of praise for some of the champ players we have signed (MG, Olise, Eze and Wharton etc) however i also think these were pretty obvious choices and should have been on the radar of anyone with any decent English football knowledge.
Our overseas recruitment seems very scattergun and haphazard with perhaps only Andersen and Munoz being the only major successes (i'm sure there are a few more) and former had already played for Fulham so was well known. Lacroix was known to OG so wasn't really a recruitment selection.
When we bought Franca i did wonder the logic of spending so much on someone so young and he was perhaps 2 years from being ready.
Canvot seems to be similar. How can we judge after less than 20 games? A massive gamble - hopefully not a AWB type who essentially had one very good season for a limited team and has since been found out a bit.
Last summer Nketiah was always a strange choice. High wages, a large transfer fee and pretty much a 6 yard box striker who offers little elsewhere on the pitch. Not a natural fit for our formation and so it has proved.
In the summer we were heavily linked with Ousmane Diomande despite the quoted price and the AFCON. A strange MG replacement IMHO.
Upfront we bid a lot for Guessand, who eventually went to Villa (and has been average since) despite him also being missing for AFCON. We eventually got Uche at the last minute and only his lack of form prevented him going to AFCON. All strange options as a Sarr alternative.
When the summer window opened it was clear we needed some squad depth. The back 3 (or 5) essentially picked itself without any cover as did the front 3. We were heavily linked with Tanganga from Millwall who had a low Prem league release clause of less than £2m.
This was a no brainer IMHO. Low cost , moderate wages and a good championship defender.
Instead he has gone to Sheff Utd for over £7m and we spend 10 times as much on Canvot.
Upfront we only seemed to be linked with Afcon players. It would have been a backwards move but there would have been logic in maybe a cheeky £2m offer to get Ayew back from relegated Leicester.
We would know what we were getting - someone who is rarely injured and can play anywhere across the front 3. As a sub bring him on for the last 20 to slow things down and win a few fouls.
The mistakes in the summer have clearly come back to bite us, but let's face it, this was predicted 3 or 4 months ago.
