Parish Conundrum

I don’t envy SP on this decision. Mark will probably walk away for free which is hard to swallow but a consolation could be another great season and additional prize money based on league position and Chelsea not getting a payout.

Glasner's comments :

"I told the chairman we have to keep Marc if we want to play a successful season," Glasner told BBC Sport.

"We have no chance to find the right replacement in one day. We all agreed that we just sell Marc if we have the right replacement in the building.

"We wanted a replacement by 1 July. It is 31 August and we have no replacement. We have this agreement so it is clear from me. He is such a crucial player. He is one of our key players - he is our captain."

What is the pricetag of keeping Guehi for a crucial season and keeping Oliver Glasner happy?
£40m?
I said before, we have him for a year, lose him for next to nothing next summer...
however, we had the strong foundation in place, we had a happy manager.. we look for replacements... we move on.

Where as, we take the 40 but possibly suffer this season.. lose OG in poor style and never really recover...

Parish needs to be giving OG cart blanch.

Considering Liverpool just blew £125m on an above average striker with a bad attitude only to bench Hugo Ekitike, I would feel short changed to lose Guehi with no replacement in place AND piss of Glasner if the pay off was only £35-40m (minus 10%).

Parish has dug him himself a big hole, not helped when opened his big trap about the need to sell Guehi.
Keep your mouth shut fool.
40m is an insulting figure for a player who is at the top of his game, calm, consistent, and professional above all else. Although no player is bigger than the club, selling a key member (captain) for peanuts at a time when great things potentially beckon, and without having a replacement ready, is utter foolishness.
If the club had found a CB that could hit the ground running then the loss of MG wouldn't be so hard, but they haven't even done that! Now they have the rest of the season to find an adequate replacement, unless we finish top 6, and MG decides he wants to stay of course...

I reckon Guehi is being advised by his agent not to sign a new contract, in order to put leverage on Parish.
If everything falls into place and Palace keep Guehi, then there may be the opportunity for him to sign an extended contract.
Parish doesn't do knee-jerk reactions, he's playing the long game. For the moment, I would hope keeping Glasner at Palace is the priority.
BBC comms saying last night how good a fit Glasner would be , if there were a vacancy at manyoo. I would say Palace are the bigger club than Manyoo at the moment, but I'm sure Parish has is all in hand

Can anybody seriously disagree with anything Glasner said?

He also said there had been a meeting back in March when it was recognised that the club had to be in the position to deal with the potential departures of Guehi and Eze.
That’s around 5 months ago and here we are on deadline day no further forward with a definite Guehi replacement.

The implication of his words to Parish is it’s up to you whether we have a successful season on not.
That statement may seem emotional and a form of blackmail , but Glasner clearly sees Guehi as a key player in our team and defensive unit.

Some on here have seen Glasner’s stance on this as a way of maximising the price we obtain for Guehi. I don’t think this is concern at all.

Others say Glasner will be possibly be off at the end of the season anyway whereas Parish has a club and the finances to run.
That may be true but that possibility becomes a probability if his captain is sold from under his feet .

Guehi leaving today would be a total disaster for CPFC. We have THREE multi billionaires owning a share of this club, and the sum of £35 million is a drop in the ocean to them. So, I suggest Steve Parish takes his blinkers off, keeps our captain for the good of the club, our brilliant manager, and the fans, and has a polite word with the billionaire group. I fully expect our captain to still be here tomorrow, so that this magnificent team can carry on developing. Anything else would be insanity!
