Parish Conundrum

The 'Board' will of course receive input from Steve Parish but it will be a collective decision taking a plethora of factors into consideration.
That’s contrary to every report I’ve read in recent times about how Palace is run - it’s a well known fact that Parish has the final say

As I posted on another thread, I'm generally very pro Steve Parish but I think he's handled this situation badly.

His comments about the need to sell Guehi have painted him into a corner price wise. And if there is a financial need to sell, well surely he's been aware of that and the need to line up an adequate replacement well in advance of where we are now.

I understand it hurts to see a £40m asset walk away for free. But let's consider that if Guehi stays it increases Palace's chances of a higher League position and winning the Conference - both of which will increase revenue. Yes, it's a risk as we could end up with neither, but it's surely riskier not to do it ?

Added to that, there's a distinct possibility that the club will come under pressure to sell Adam Wharton next summer - that's potentially a £100m income.

So I say keep Marc. His Liverpool move can still happen next year.
It's not just Wharton who could be leaving next year, the contracts of Oliver and Kamada end, Mateta will be entering his last year and like Munoz has expressed his desire to play at a bigger club.
This is the second year in a row where we should have done better by being proactive and preparing for player departures but haven't, so it doesn't instill much confidence with regards to next year.
Luckily for us the group is very tight and steps up when needed but when you are continually changing people within that group at the last minute, you create uncertainty which can lead to a negative environment and you risk losing it all.

On a wider point the whole issue of players contracts following Bosman has been a godsend to the money clubs who know, even without buy out clauses which don't affect them the same way, that they can pressure other clubs into selling their prize assets or risk taking a serious financial hit.
They can say it's the football food chain but the PL is affected far more by this due to the transfer fees involved and it feels, if not exactly like restraint of trade, certainly anti competition.
Clubs at lower levels (hate saying that because it's been us often enough) exist largely by finding players good enough to sell at a profit and the fans accept that reality, sometimes reluctantly - often gladly, but we are an established cup winning PL team.
I don't have any solution to this situation, just wanted to vent.

Steve Parish does have decision-making authority at CPFC but of course there is a 'Board' with significant financial interests in the club.
I suspect there have been discussions apropos the situation with Guehi and the wider implications !
It is going to be a busy day for our esteemed Chairman.

We should be buying in this window for those players you mentioned leaving next window.
Instead we're running around like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Jingle All The Way, trying to get action man before the stores close on Christmas Eve.

Action Man would be alright but we'll probably end up with Sindy.

It feels like today will be a vital today in our history without a ball being kicked.

Huge dilemma for Parish, I wouldn’t want to be him. I’d love to know how much (if anything) we have been offered at what point in the window and what our replacement options were. How much would you have taken in hindsight?

Glasner impresses me more each and every time. Here he is asking Parish if he wants it or not. Because he (Glasner) knows the way. Does Parish know the way?
Don't fool yourself that Glasner is loyal to Palace anymore than anyone else is. If an offer came in from a big club, he would be off, if Guehi stayed or not.

Who says they are definitely leaving ?

Do you believe all the clickbait you read ??

That isn't what I said. Should he get an offer from a "bigger" club, then I would expect him to present himself as he has done with us. He doesn't beat around the bush, his answers are refreshingly direct and honest. He also knows what he wants from a team, and gets it. He wants success.

Of marc signs a contact extension to2027 with pay increase with release clause of 35m. Then he can lwave in summer 2026 We have time to secure and bed in replacement OF is happy and marc gets 100% playing time for his England future Sounds too simple so can't be right
