Parish Conundrum

I understand TENA pants are doing some good offers for bulk purchases at the moment 😎 😱

Not relegation so much (although I don't think I'll ever quite shake that goal of 4th from bottom every season!) more of a slightly negative "what if" scenario.

I think more than the money it's just a feeling that we could be on the verge of getting some momentum and building on that success we've had. Perhaps starting to attract the "bigger" players (not Neil Ruddock bigger, but you get what I mean...) that we can use to try and be knocking on the door of Europe via the league every year and with that the potential for more income into the club.

Without wishing to sound too dramatic, it feels like we're at a fork in the path right this second. One path looks like it could lead to bigger and better things, whilst the other not so much and more scrabbling around to make sure we're in the top half of the bottom half of the league. We don't rely on one player anymore like we did with Wilf, but I wonder if Guehi leaving now would start a domino affect, whilst his staying (even till January) might have the opposite affect.

Who knows, as you say you can go round and round with all of this!
I definitely think we are at a fork… but whether one side (keeping Guehi) leads to great success or financial ruin and the other side (selling Guehi) leads to us struggling and losing manager and players, or gradual slow but steady development of the club is debatable.

It’s a difficult conundrum but I trust Parish’s judgement over my own.

He has played one game for Brighton.

If he ever plays in the league for us, I'll be surprised. I expect to see him in a handful of cup games.
Correcting myself here. Julio has played quite a number of games for the Weed but suffered a hamstring injury which hampered him.

I still think he will be a bit part player, but we will see.

I hope you all realise that the only place I have read anywhere about Glasner possibly leaving is on this board. So the angst being put forward is all self created.

I would only ever expect him to leave at the end of his contract, unless we sacked him, which we are clearly not going to do.

You'd have to imagine that keeping our best ever manager would be an ambition of the board beyond his current contract.
He could be the key to many seasons of progress and success ahead. Selling Guehi could jeopardise that for the sake of £35 million.
The only way it happens is if we sign a player that Glasner approves of as a replacement. There are five and a half hours to make that happen.

I wouldn't blame Glasner if he walks if Guehi goes with no suitable replacement.

He's been let down on 3 occasions now and that leaves to an inevitable breakdown in trust which is not conducive to a positive relationship.

To those who criticise his stance what would you do if you were continually let down - just suck it up.
Yes, he's paid a lot of money to do this, but ultimately he's a serious professional who doesn't like to be undermined.

In an attempt to potentially defend the undefendable.

I cant imaging this window is perfect through Parish's eyes either.

At present we've lost 1 big player, and replaced with a Spanish international with simular top flight experience.

Other teams are struggling, e.g. Fulham

Unless you are willing to overspend, the window isn't offering much if any value for money

Teams may live to regret paying over the odds (e.g. Guessand)

Following on from previous poster, who would blame Ollie for walking if MG goes. We have had to sit through amateur hour all summer. In the grand scheme of things is £35 million really worth losing a premium manager, the best we’ve ever had for that?

Ollie has said on a number of occasions lately that MG is not angling for a move. So leave it alone. Why piss the manager off as out of principle he will walk at the first opportunity and parish will have only himself to blame. Ollie wants MG to stay. He stays. That should be the end of it. We have a fabulous chance of our highest ever league position and a good chance of silverware WITH MG and Parish and the board want to piss off the manager and penny pinch of £35 million. Ffs

Early days I know, but Guessand did not impress yesterday.

Really interesting, I just knew last night that he would go and had expected it, business is business and I didnt blame Parish..........................but now it appears to be done, I feel furious and so angry with Parish.

He has taken a massive gamble and I will never forgive him if this goes tits up.

I absolutely get why Glasner wants Marc to stay (and so do I)

BUT...if Glasner hasn't (or won't) pledge his own future to Palace beyond his current contract, is it fair to ask the club to "give away" £40m to keep Glasner happy for a year, after which we could lose Glasner and Guehi anyway (and us having another good year just makes Glasner more attractive to another suitor the following year)

If Glasner would commit to a new contract if we kept Guehi, then that would be a different conversation

I am sure we will get another. We just couldn’t get them over the line from Paish. It’s a disgrace he didn’t have anything in place. and his handling of the club is the reason we just stand still
