Palace v Bournemouth Matchday Thread

I disagree- his penalty was awful. It rolled in. Had the keeper not gone the other way it would have been on par with Eze’s diabolical penalty.
I’m very much the lover of the Harry Kane type approach- bang it in the upper half of the net . Top corner.
In the cold light of day it obviously should have been a 4-3 win, but at 4.55 yesterday I was happy to walk away with the draw.
Nothing wrong with rolling the ball in if keeper goes wrong way - good pen, as is the ones we’ve seen from Devenny/Kane. Just different ways of taking them 🙂

The problem is that if the keeper goes the right way, the rolled penalty ends up looking an Embarrassment to the person taking it. If the keeper saves a rocket it doesn’t look like a bad penalty just a great save.
It does all depend if it goes in though!!

Exactly why I hate those penalties. If you belt it and the keeper guesses right you may still score because of the power. Stroke it and get it wrong it becomes a back pass.

I thought it was a good penalty. It wasn't like he'd tried a Panenka or some flash variant. He's the one taking it so it's up to him.

I wouldn't call our first half performance "poor" - we were just outplayed pure and simple.
It was a very poor opening goal to concede with a player unmarked at the back post to score.
Apropos the second, perhaps some culpability might be aimed at Henderson for failing to keep the ball out of the net. I will have to peruse the highlights to confirm or deny.

He made the keeper dive the other way, and I mean he MADE him do that with body shape. It would've been odd for the keeper to do what you said. That is nothing like what you describe with Eze, and according to your logic a Panenka penalty is awful, lucky and terrible. JP is very good at penalties, really good at them.

They should've had 10 men

I was informed that Lorent Tolaj of Plymouth scored from a 'Panenka' penalty recently to put his team 1-0 to the good at Wigan with 20 mins left to play.

A terrific game of football. Some of our players hadn’t been back from long distance travelling so would be a bit jaded. I’d rather a game like that than a goalless draw like under previous managers where we are just hanging on.

When one is 2-0 in arrears and then 3-2 down in the dying embers of the game, a 3-3 can be considered a satisfying result.
Assessing the 'Bigger picture' we have now drawn 3 of our 4 PL games at home, and such results do not align with supporters lofty expectations of our final position in the table.
Our style of play lends itself to being more effective away from home where the home team is usually expected to be doing the attacking and leaving space for us in transition. Last season we got 25 points at home and 28 away. I can see us earning more points away from home again this season but with a comfortable top half finish.

out of 15 pens he has taken he has missed one which was against villa not bad in my eyes
Emi Martinez was in goal.
He never had to make a save as Mateta blasted the ball wide but Martinez has a very good penalty saving record and perhaps this played on Mateta's mind.
Martinez has also gained a reputation for putting penalty takers off with his antics and perhaps this also came into play.

To be fair it hit the post.

I agree, having watched there second goal on MOD I think Henderson should have got it. Still rate him though 🙂
