Palace Summer 2026 transfers?

I am not too happy about how things are going and hope we'll get the newcomers we need.
The trouble with 'last minute' signings is the time it takes to bed them in.

So far we seem to be suspect in defence and ineffective in attack

The new manager is a worry as we don't know how good he is and if he will cope with the stresses of the Premier League - any points from the first two games would be encouraging.

After off-loading the talented but non-performing Johnson what would cheer me up is if we could do the same with Strand Larsen. Whoever was responsible for these two hideously expensive signings in January should have been run out of the club. If it was Glasner then that has happened.

If we don't lose against Everton and City I will be surprised and delighted.

I can see the attraction of bringing in a midfielder to bed them in for next season (with the likelihood of some existing midfielders perhaps not being here next season).
That being said, if we persist with a 2 man central midfield in the current system I wonder where a new player would fit in unless he's something special.
At the moment Wharton and Kamada seem first choice for the 2 roles, with Hughes and Lerma understudies and Doucoure 5th choice as he recovers from injury.
That doesn't leave much space unless we change the system to accommodate an extra midfield player.

To my mind , the priority is a fast commanding centre back.

IMO the only 2 things we should let happen are Mateta and Munoz. We've got cover and their contracts/age are against us.

Everything else I'd turn down.

Not Palace related, but It will be interesting to see if City come for Fernandez. Chelsea were very clear with the deadline.
i personally would keep both until January unless we receive a silly offer for either.

I'm not expecting a great start to the season as things gel and with 6 Europa games this side of Xmas we need not only a big squad but our most talented players.

I recently read that Burnley's total revenue halves when they get relegated and it would be a disaster if a similar fate happened to us.

IMHO keep our best players and let's see where we are in January. The Conf league win covered our terrible league form in 2026 and without Lacroix we are weaker now. With a new manager too there are big risks for us this season.

The club do seem to be trying to fill both positions. It may come down to a game of chicken between us and Chelsea over the loan fee for Disasi re the CB, which as you say is the primary need at present. Whilst it would be nice to get a midfielder, that one can wait till January given both our system and the current availability for those 2 places.

I really do hope we are not going for Disasi that is a poor move even if it is a loan.

Sky is reporting that the Esse deal to Club Brugge looks to be off.
If we do manage to offload Esse, JRS and Ozoh that could bring in around £20 million to help the transfer kitty.
At the moment Esse looks to the difficult one to shift as English clubs only seem to want him on loan.
There has been reported interest in Devenny too (£7 million?), but I've a feeling the club would like to keep him as a versatile squad option.

Looks like Gozo will be next, but there certainly has been consistant interest in centre midfielders. All seaming to be of the same type, bags of athleticism, young but with good experience.

I'd assumed Gozo was the '5th' signing - or have I missed someone?
Mingueza,
Tomiyasu,
Khalali,
McNeil,
and ... Gozo

I'm concerned with the lack of activity or speculation around a central midfielder. Lerma has signed a new contract, that's great but the level now between a Wharton and Kamada midfield and a Hughes and Lerma midfield is an ever increasing chasm

One thing we have been incredibly consistent in over the last decade and a half is relying so heavily on first teamers and then just making do with "okay" replacements. I don't remember the last time we brought a sub on and the crowd slid to the edge of their seats.

We've been linked with several, most seriously with Camara at Monaco but that fell through. A more recent rumour was about Fofana from an Italian club.
