Palace potentially denied entry to Europa League?

I’m reminded of the Al Pacino line in The Godfather,
‘The key is to get rid of Solazzo.’

For Solazzo, substitute Textor.

If Textor is out of the club the question of ‘control or significant influence’ goes out the window and there’s no conflict with Lyon’s involvement in the same competition.

Can a buyer be found though with the complicated existing ownership/executive structure though?

It’s a bit of a Catch 22 situation in some ways.
To extend your analogy, Andy Garcia's "I say we take Zaza OUT" is also relevant.

For Zaza, read Blitzer: if Textor cannot be removed does that not render Blitzer part of the problem as well given his interest in Brondby (who are in the Conference League)?

On a positive note, if we get kicked out at least I won't have to fabricate fictional work trips to Bratislava, Athens and Krakow to the Mrs every couple of weeks.

I get to travel quite a lot for work anyway, so have already told the boss to expect to see me looking for new business in hitherto unexplored locations , often in the middle of the week at short notice.

This situation is really in the balance for me. Textor obviously is involved with Palace dealings, because his money in it. His business philosophy is throw in the money, get lucky, and take it out ASAP. and onto the next venture. Textor might well be impacting Palace's plans for longer-term planning.
Uefa have no doubt caught Textor with his finances in too many clubs. He is blatantly in the wrong.

But, this is where politics come into play. potential banning wouldn't happen to any of the big boys. So, Uefa either decide to use this trial as a warning shot to clubs, to show they do enforce rules and ban Palace.
Or they decide the publicity might be enough to scare other clubs into financial compliance, and accept that Textor has put his shares into a hidey-hole for the time being.

All a bit Simon Jordanesque. "I've bought the stadium,....but not really, a lending company has"

Exactly. We are just the sort of club that UEFA will make an example of.

Remember when Swindon was relegated for tax irregularities. Well, over the following year many of the top sides including Man United revealed to HMRC that they also had made the same mistake and paid the money owed and a fine. The FA did sweet FA about them.

It's a classic tactic, go after the little guy as a warning to the clubs with bigger pockets.

I don't mean it as a conspiracy.
The club recognised that it had the best chance of European football in quite a while via even the cup or a high league placing.
You would assume appropriate planning would have taken place, but everybody makes mistakes or can misunderstand applicable rules.
Hehe I know, I was just being silly

Now being reported in the Guardian that Palace will be thrown out not only due to Textor but Blitzer has shares in Brondby.

Getting a very bad feeling about this.

Hopefully, rather than argue over the rules, UEFA offer Palace a way in which they can still compete in the Europa League. This is the first time we have ever qualified for Europe, having won our first-ever major trophy. It could be argued that Palace could have planned for this, but this was 120 years in the making! I guess it will come down to whether UEFA want to work with Palace or not. Like others have said, I don't think this would even be under discussion if it were Man City or Chelsea.

That's pretty much how I see it, but the issues with JT , Lyon & the European footballing authorities don't exactly fill me with confidence.

Sadly that's not how it works.
If we are kicked out it seems Forest would move into the Europa place and Brighton would take the Conference place.
Personally I wouldn't want us in the minor competition anyway, but I know many want to see us in Europe regardless.

Has it though ?

I thought when Textor invested in Palace in 2021 he had no investments in other clubs. As I've posted before on this, given Parish's stance on multi club ownership I think it's unlikely that he was aware of Textor's intentions at that time. So I think three years we have had the issue.

And what exactly can be done to '' sort it out '' ?

Textor has every right to retain his shares. It seems that Harris and Blitzer have made no moves to buy him out even when he was open to selling his shares to fund his bid to buy Everton. In fact it was reported that Textor wanted to buy their shares and take total control over Palace after the Everton purchase was no longer an option.

I totally agree that the ownership structure is unsatisfactory. But unravelling it is not a simple process, and the reasons why have been debated at length on here.

Put it in a blind trust earlier as every other club has been doing, if that is the hack. Had Brighton lost on the last day, and we'd won - both of which were the scorelines at one point - we'd have been only 3 points off the conference league spot.

Granted, neither route to Europe was very likely in March, but they weren't beyond the realms of possibility as demonstrated by us achieving one of them. The club took a position whereby the biggest risk to qualifying for Europe wasn't our performance on the pitch - that bit should always be the biggest barrier.

I get that you can't force people to sell, both you can get around UEFA's multi-club rules, and we just didn't sort it out.

Maybe our next signings should be Manchester City’s lawyers !

Because I need someone to explain to me just why this March deadline is so critical. What is the difference in terms of net effect from placing Textors shares in a Blind Trust then as opposed to now when it has become evident that it is a requirement ?

I would further question what doing that actually achieves . On paper it would mean that Textor would have absolutely no influence on Palace while his shares are in Blind Trust. But in reality I doubt that would be the case. The Forest owner, savvy enough to realise that his team were capable of a European spot in either the CL or Europa, put his shares in a Blind Trust in accordance with that ridiculous deadline. Then runs onto the pitch at the City Ground berating his manager - how can that be considered to be having no influence ?!

We are seeing Legal challenge to rules in the Premier League . Rules that may have been well intended but ultimately are not fit for purpose. And I think this is a UEFA example of that.

I blame Strasbourg. They conceded a goal in the 99th minute of the last game of the season to lose 2-3 against Le Harve thereby allowing OL to overtake them on goal difference and into the Europa League. It maybe that, given the leeway afforded to Man City/Girona and others, UEFA are checking with lawyers so that any decision taken either way complies with the rules on multiple ownership. After all Textor has a reputation of being very litigious and wold be quite happy to sue UEFA if the decision goes against him.

On the other hand if we fail with this decision we are likely to lose some big names including Glasner. However, we would get some big money to help build the new stand, rebuild the squad, more opportunity for our younger players and I would get to watch Alien Night on Blaze on cold winter Thursday nights!!!

This is is one of our companies house reports, to be honest I know nothing about it but the Olympic Lyonnais part doesn't look great on us, also who was the player we sold to lyon?
