Palace potentially denied entry to Europa League?

Can anyone explain how the teams are allocated between Groups 1,2,3 & 4?

The rules say “The UEFA administration may form groups for the draw in accordance with the principles set by the Club Competitions Committee”, but give no further details. Group 3 includes losers of four ties from the Europa League, while groups 1 & 2 don’t contain any.

This doesn’t seem very fair to me.

Are UEFA stitching us up again?
Yes, UEFA have stitched us up on multiple fronts. The fact that they delayed and delayed their decision over Lyon, means that in a couple of minutes Palace will be drawn against a club in the Conference competition. The result of our appeal will be less than two weeks before our first match. 'The system' will argue that it will be too late to rearrange anything and we will be stuck in the wrong competition. What then? Well, personally I will look forward to numerous anti-UEFA tifos and hopefully Palace suing for effectively wrongful dismissal. Or, CAS will take the easy route and just rule against us, to save UEFA's blushes.

Exactly, it’s the biggest hammer to smash the smallest walnut in football history. The tiniest perceived threat that won’t ever arise as it’s historic and cannot ever happen as the protagonist is gone. It’s utterly pathetic to be honest.
Sadly (as I said way up the thread) not enough to win the appeal. But enough for CAS to look very hard for something.

This is the bbc's take on who we will face . . .

There are three groupings for the Conference League play-off draw, based on Uefa coefficients. As a seeded club, Crystal Palace are in grouping three.

If Palace win their two-legged play-off tie, they will reach the league phase. Lose, and they will be out.

Palace's potential opponents are:

  • Larne or FC Santa Clara
  • Servette or FC Utrecht
  • Fredrikstad or Midtjylland
  • AEK Larnaca or Legia Warsaw
  • AIK Stockholm or FC Gyor
Scottish sides Hibernian and Dundee United are in the same pot as Palace and have the same pool of potential opponents.

However, both must get past a third round qualifier first - Hibs against Partizan Belgrade, Dundee Utd versus Rapid Vienna.

Or Legia Trousers 😳

CAS will not even listen to that argument that is mute nothing todo with the case , CAS will go on evidence only , and if we win they have to readjust the draw and put forest in

I don’t hold out much hope of reversing UEFAs call re multi club ownership, much as we think we know we weren’t guilty of that.

I think our best chance is around the so called deadline date of 1/3/25. We were in no position to comply and apparently ECA members were told that date wasn’t set in stone anyway. That to me highlights that the rule is inconsistently applied and is not fit for purpose. So basically , despite all of the subsequent efforts to remove any trace of multi club ownership, we are being punished for not hitting a date that may or may not be a hard deadline which is months in advance of the competition even starting !
Depends on how CAS adjudicate.

If the rule provided a date that we failed to meet, strict interpretation means the appeal fails on that ground (if made?) irrespective of whether it was only applied to us or could not be practically met.

CAS may also take a hard line on the MCO point, as they should refuse to reassess UEFA's assessment unless we can establish that e.g. UEFAs methodology was materially flawed, the decision was irrational to the extent no sensible analysis could have reached UEFAs conclusion etc. Tough arguments.

On the other hand, if CAS has the bandwidth to state that UEFAs flexible application meant that date can be construed as e.g. a guideline only, then it can be discounted.

Or, as you suggest, CAS can decide that such a date at such a time renders performance impossible and the rule perverse. Then it may disapply it on that ground completely. Or (less good) it may assess compliance as on e.g. the date of UEFAs decision (bad), or the date of the appeal (good).

I would not give up on the other (guessed) grounds of appeal, such as whether there was an MCO, any perceived fairness in the process and so on. Appeal tribunals can be very generous hunting for a hook where there is obvious injustice and no bad conduct.

What a load of sh*te this whole thing has been. I think we should withdraw from the competition immediately on principle. We really have been stitched up on a grand scale. Why the f*ck couldn't CAS make their decision before the stupid conference draw!? We can all see how this one is going to play out now. C*NTS. Sorry for the rant. Like everyone else just very pissed off and tired of this nonsense.

CAS are fitting us in on a busy calendar , even if we didn't get a hearing a day before the first match UEFA would have to reschedule , the case isn't straight forward , you may think so , but its not , hence the 3 day delay before giving the decisions , they have to agree there making the right decision , unless all 3 agree straight after the hearing , even then they have to make sure they haven't missed anything , so chill👍

It’s bad law and can be shown to be bad law. As my old law lecturer used to say, “not all law is binding, that’s why you employ the best barrister you can afford”.

Maybe the rules of natural justice don’t apply within UEFA however.

Thats just throwing the toys out of the pram. Dont forget if Palace had got all their ducks in a row we wouldn't be in this situation. Lets just win the damn thing and have another trophy and consecutive years in Europe

They drew the first leg 0-0 and play the second 14 August with Midtjylland at home. They have played 3 games in the Danish league to date and picked up 5 points. Fredrikstad are 7th in their league after 18 games so they are probably the weaker team
I think you'll find that they play their first leg this Thursday 7th and then the second leg on the 14th
