Palace potentially denied entry to Europa League?

I think that the issue here is that Palace were deemed to be part of a MOC arrangement by UEFA at the time we qualified for the Europa League - ie May 17th. Palace have pleaded otherwise but the absence of any decision from UEFA indicates that they believe Textor had sufficient influence at Palace for them to be considered as part of his club portfolio. Meanwhile, the rest of the football world knows that not to be the case.

Again, my opinion only, but the Lyon fiasco, Textor departing and selling his shares are just sideshows. I could understand UEFA trying to help us by giving us time for any ties with Textor to be severed, but that's not how it's now coming across. It now appears that they have not been convinced by the case put to them by Parish and Textor last month.

I think this is going to Court unless Lyon's relegation is confirmed.
If your penultimate sentence is correct, and I have no reason to believe it isn’t, surely UEFA should have ruled us out at that stage….unless they were waiting to see the result of the Lyon relegation issue (if they are out we can participate) or there’s some other motive which appears unclear.

Yes, agreed.

There failure to communicate anything can be interpreted that either they aren't accepting Palace's case or that they are playing for time.

If it's the latter then I think it demonstrates just how meaningless their rules are.

Exactly. If they had proper rules they wouldn't be waiting on the French FA to make the decision for them.

I feel that the UEFA position is that on the 1st March JT had a 45% shareholding in Palace which makes him a person of significant control (regardless of any boardroom voting rights agreement- documented or otherwise) which means that alongside his majority shareholder position at Lyon, both teams couldn't play in the same Europa League tournament, so on that point I believe we are out - I also believe that the only reason it has not publicly been announced is because of the Lyon appeal process, UEFA don't want to kick us out of the Europa League & then have to suffer the embarrassment of inviting us back again if / when the Lyon appeal fails.

Just my tuppence worth -

But I thought Eagle Holdings had a 45% share of which Textor had 50%, making his share of Palace less than 25%?

There was no problem on 17 May because Lyon had failed to reach the Ligue 1 position normally required to secure Europa League qualification. It was not until the 24 May that PSG won the Coupe de France so that 6th place was enough to qualify Lyon and so cause the mess we see now. Yet apparently Textor should have predicted this unique combination of events (Palace and PSG both win their Cups and Lyon edge 6th place on goal difference) a full 3 months earlier! The UEFA rules are unworkable!

If correct, Ex Dubai cites the risk and current reality, but you cite the hope.

Anyway, it would be absurd to boot us out. With Textor all but gone at both clubs, seemingly as a consequence of the rules, they have clearly worked to address the peril they were created to prevent.

Job done. Why punish any club for taking all reasonable steps to comply with those rules and fully mitigated the risk and potential harm?

The point of the rules is to ensure that clubs do not collude to fix results. On that basis the deadline for compliance should be a few weeks before the first fixture. Any club that hasn't complied by then should be kicked out of the competition and their opponents should be awarded 3 points.

I don't hold with promoting and relegating clubs in their place, it complicates matters.

Not sure it works like that. If he has a controlling interest/stake in Eagle Holdings, he may as well have 100% of the shares when talking about Investments; of the 45% Eagle Holdings have in CPFC, he has control over all of it.

maffs , statistics and numbers. You can wrangle it any way that suits you. Just look how Maggie Thatcher continually changed the rules for unemployment numbers.

And look at Carol Vorderman. Amazing. 😀

I think Palace are about to take a good fisting 🙁

I am about to set off for Fuerteventura so will miss a couple of weeks or so of nothing (no offence to anyone) and my tuppence is that we will be in Europe for the second time and I hope we do better than last time. Steve Parish has had a mighty painful time for the last few months and has done as well as he could do and hopefully that has been enough. Good luck to all. Stefan Borson is an impressive guy though.

It's very windy, so even if the temperature is good it feels cold. Take a top.
