Our present squad

That's my thinking as well.
My view for it's worth is that once Lacroix is up to speed and Chalobah is match ready, we'll see:
LCB Guehi
CB Lacroix
RCB Chalobah.
Should defo go with that for Saturdays match against Liverpool then go with:
RWB Munoz
LWB Mitchel

CM Wharton
CM Lerma/Hughes

CAM Sarr
CAM Eze

ST Nketiah

But i dont think he will

Come January transfer window would defo get in back ups for RWB and LWB and make Chalobah permanent as it looks like glasner is keeping 5 at the back.

SP splash the cash 👍

Liverpool interested in JPM? Probably just clickbait cobblers or it's the usual dilemma; he scores a few before Christmas and leaves in January or doesn't and stays.
Bet when they paid £64 m for Nunez they didn't see him being replaced by Mateta.

Having a quick review of players so far: My opinion

Henderson: Playing well and love his passion, Great shot stopper
Turner: Done a good job when called upon
Munoz: Plays with his heart on his sleeve and does a good job defensively n attacking
Clyne: Think his day's are numbered
Richards: coming back from injury does a good job
Riad: Coming back from injury, from what I've seen will do a good job
Guéhi: Solid
Chalobah: OK but gets caught out sometimes
Lacroix: 1 or 2 errors but very solid, good start to his palace career
Ward: Days are numbered
Mitchell: Good defensively but lacks attacking
Wharton: Hit by injuries but will shine when fully fit
Hughes: Middfield general, gets stuck in
Lerma: Does a job
Doucouré: injuries, hopefully he can find his form
Eze: Exciting at times but spends too much time on the ball then loses it.
Franca: injury prone
Schlupp: seen better days
Kamada: A bit of a disappointment weather he comes good I'm not convinced
Sarr: Lots of pace and a decent start so far
Devenny: Comes in and does well, one for future
Mateta: Took his time to settle in but playing well
Nketiah: Think he needs time to settle in, He tries too hard but hopefully he will come good

Elsewhere
Eduoard: Can't get a game at Leicester sell in the summer
Imray: Getting great reviews at Bromley might be good backup for Munoz next season
Rak-sakyi: Playing well at Sheffield see what happens in the summer
Whitworth: Playing well at Exeter, clean sheets, one for the future
Ahamada: Can't get a game..sell in the summer
Ozoh: Good start a Derby but currently injured

Glasner made some interesting observations yesterday,

- Edouard won’t be coming back in January and it’s up to him and his agent to find a new loan in January if the Leicester one is terminated earlier
- he doesn’t regret working with a small squad. Devenny wouldn’t have got a chance with a larger squad. Franca was expected back in September , and he was somebody expected to help with his dribbling skills and attacking prowess
- JPM is the best striker he has worked with and it’s up to the rest of team to create opportunities for him to finish as he will take them if presented ( doesn’t sound as if Glasner wants him sold in January if the contract wrangle continues).

Do we start Chalobah or do we bring back Richards? I think Richards is slightly better imo

I'd like to start Richards. starting to look good before he got injured. I've not been that impressed with Chalobah; whenever we concede a soft goal, it seems it's always him at the center of it. And he's on loan. I'd rather play players we actually own, unless it's an area we are seriously lacking in.

Agree with this & also not forgetting that Chadi Riad is back & available after he played 45mins last night for the U21's.

I have a different opinion re Richards.

I was impressed by him when he first joined.
He looked pacy, made good recovery tackles and was aggressive.

He also had a good spell, together with the rest of the team, at the end of last season, featuring on the left of a back 3.
For me he looks uncomfortable when dragged into wider areas , particularly on our right hand side.
He also seems be carrying a bit of extra weight and seems to have lost that burst of pace which he first demonstrated upon joining.

Chaloboah hasn't set the world alight for us yet, but he's a decent player who I think will come good .

With regard to Riad, where's he going to play in the current set up?
He's not going to displace Guehi or Lacroix and in the event of an injury I believe Richards would be first pick as cover.
Riad is probably one for the future.

Tend to agree.

The only slight issue is that fact that we own Richards, so feels like we should prioritise.

At the min, there is no real reason to change. He'll get a chance through injury at some point

Richards cant have lost his mojo after only half a year. It is injury recovery. He will return to the Richards who finished the season off so well if managed properly.

Chalobah, I agree the negative comments above. A utility back-up DM and CB when Riad back to full match fitness.

The real issue as I see it is whether Doucore and Wharton can recover their full form. If they can, we are scarily good. And Eze and Sarr better be ready for a lot more work.

Re Danny Imray, I’ve seen him play a lot for Bromley this season. At L2 level he’s a stand out player.

But he needs to move up , preferably to the Championship, to see what he’s really made of.

I’d love to see him make it at Palace but not at the expense of Munoz !

Our squad is basically one injury away from disaster. It is no better than last season, in fact we are going backwards.

You need - 2 players + 1 youth player for every position. It is not rocket science but what I do not get is STILL we have not signed a cover player for Mitchell. Relying on Clyne to play out of position on the left, might be a good in house solution but long term, it does not get Mitchell the rest he needs.

You need depth to last a season. As we have shown, we have been poor 1st half this season. This is because we have a huge lack of competition in key areas.

For me, by the beginning of next season I would hope our squad would look something more like this:

GK: Henderson, Whitworth, Goodman
LCB: NEW PLAYER, Riad, YOUTH PLAYER
CB: Lacroix, NEW PLAYER, YOUTH PLAYER
RCB: Guehi, Richards, YOUTH PLAYER
RWB: Munoz, Clyne, Imray
LWB: Mitchell, NEW PLAYER, YOUTH PLAYER
CM: Doucoure, Hughes, Ozoh
CM: Wharton, Lerman, YOUTH PLAYER
LW: Eze, Schlupp, Esse
RW, Sarr, Rak-Sakyi, Devenny
CF, Mateta, Nketiah, YOUTH PLAYER

It is clear we have some other youth players like Agbinone, Umeh, Kporha who need experience.

It is high time we moved a lot of the dead wood on. Edouard, Holding will never play under OG, Ward sadly is not at the level now. Turner is a stop gap but I never think having 2 senior keepers is a great use of funds. Whitworth has come in and played, has already played now a season at L1 and will only benefit from working with Henderson & becoming a cup keeper. Goodman, is a real prospect & we should look to keep him around the squad.

Matthews should go, he is not up to it either other than being a happy to sit in the stands 3rd choice. I would rather us look at a youth player with a higher ceiling frankly.

You cant chuck out all your experience in one go - I would say move Clyne and Schlupp on but if you are going to add youth players to the squad, experienced heads are needed.

We need 2 centre backs
A reserve right back
A reserve left back

If anything, we have too many midfielders now. Franca has never done it yet, always injured. Kamada? Not at the level. Ebiowei has never had a chance yet, Ahamada has already left as well.

Plange has not been a success anywhere he has gone. I think it is time to admit that while we mugged Derby at the time, he has not progressed. Similarly Adaramola has never seemed to do great on-loan either.

I would hope that OG will take the best 12-15 youth players, add them into the squad as 3rd choices. Use them in the Trophy, maybe in some of the League Cup early rounds against weaker opposition, drip fed, to see what they are about. In January, allow a fair chunk to go out on loan to see how they fare in L2, or L1, or the Championship, depending on where they have been on-loan before.

To my mind in the summer we need 4 players. The answer for me is clear but mentioning names isnt going to be a useful exercise.

More importantly is tying down those whose contracts are going to expire in the coming 12 - 18 months - Mitchell & Guehi at the top of that list. Losing them would be a massive blow. Mitchell especially.

But right now, we have too many passengers and we need to cut our cloth accordingly. Holding & Edouard arent even close to the squad, we need to get shot of them no matter what. If Atlanta United are offering £15m for Edouard, never mind drive him to the airport, get him a private Jet and go!

If he’s going to breakthrough with us it needs to be in the next year or so. He will be 22 at the start of next season. While that is nothing in normal human years, in football terms that is the age you need to start getting into the squad regularly

I don’t disagree as such.

However if he impressed at Championship level and showed potential of making the step up to the Prem and still only 23/4 then he could still have a future at Palace.

The club haven’t written him off yet but need to see him play at a higher level.

Do they?

I rate Imray significantly more than I do Kporha who's already in the 1st team squad. Imray's development was hindered by a serious injury not long after he joined us. It set him back a year or so. He's come on in leaps and bounds over the last two years as the stand-out player in the U21s and now at Bromley. There was talk of the club ending his loan to Bromley and sending him to L1 promotion chasing Wycombe. I've not heard any more since. Whether he stays at Bromley or moves to Wycombe, I wouldn't be surprised to see him being Munoz's back-up next season in the PL squad.
