Nketiah?

I don't believe that Nketiah was bought as a possible replacement for Mateta.

More likely to provide some competition and the fact that he's a totally different kind of player that offers something different if our ' Plan A ' isn't working.

What I do think is that he could be more effective playing alongside Mateta, but there's no indication that Glasner is going to do that.

I hope he comes good. His confidence looks shot at the moment, similar to Kamada.

Agree with all of that.

I had him pinned as a Lineker-esque ‘fox in the box’ type and he also has pace.

As a mere suggestion, I’ve considered Glasner’s approach to demand a bit more from a Striker, sometimes, hence the big lumbering presence of Mateta up front.

When Nketiah plays, he often looks to me as through he’s being dragged into that CF/CAM role where Eze/others play.

If he is to feature up there, he’d need two strong players behind him (like we had with Eze/Olise) and be urged to stay central and close to goal. He’d grab goals there but looks unlikely and out of his comfort zone when more involved in play.

hhmmmm indeed. If i am being kind, i will say he did an excellent job getting past that last defender today.
Three hideous shots and more bad control. On the plus side he did get a header in for Sarr's second goal and did pull the ball back well for Doucoure's chance. 5/10 but best game of the season

I'm willing to give him more time to see what he can do.
I well remember a similar type from the 80s named Ian Wright.
Spent the vast majority of his early days at Selhurst falling over and generally looking a bit of a numpty.

Who knows if Nkettia can turn it around as Wrighty did, but.......

At the start of the season Sarr looked out of position and uncomfortable. Like he didn't know where he really fitted in the side. For one reason or another Nketiah hasn't had the game time that Sarr has. But Sarr has settled so well. 2 goals and an assist at Brighton is incredible. Eddie will get there, he needs the time.

It would be great to see him score against the Arse this week though.

Nketiah has been in the league for 7 years, Wright had been there 7 minutes. My recollection differs from yours. I may be wrong, but when he first arrived it seemed he was always coming on as a sub for Phil Barber to great acclamation

I think this is the key point. Nketiah isn’t a young, raw prospect who we’ve bought as a development project. He’s an experienced Premier League player. What he’s showing in general is what I would expect from his career to date. Doesn’t have the all round quality to be a regular first choice Premier League forward. He’s a useful back up and sub as he was at Arsenal. I’m hopeful he can improve a bit and contribute more but I’d be surprised if he turns himself into a regular starter barring injuries. The issue isn’t so much the player as the fact we paid £25m for him.

Nketiah is another Mezut Ozil. A player with a good history and not much of a future.

My patience has already run out. A ton of money down the drain, sadly.

What the actual...

Literally couldn't be more opposite in playing style, career, standing in the game. Ozil had about 15 full seasons across the Bundesliga, La Liga and the prem. Won leagues, cups, world cups, tonnes of individual awards. At a similar age to Nketiah is now, Ozil was getting signed for Real Madrid.

Nketiah has has basically zero history, he's been a bit part player at Arsenal, now dropping down to see if he can be a main man.

And lets try to have a little more patience and not completely write players off after 16 games. Look at how JMP and Hughes are playing.

Or more recent improvements, Sarr and Lacroix.......Haven't heard anyone bemoaning the sale of Anderson for a few weeks now. He'll be a 50million pound player by the end of the season.

ok eagle, i take your point. But it is my opinion that Arsenal always send us dud players.

Yep that I agree with. We never seam to do well signing players from bigger clubs.

Often big fees, big wages and expectation that if they were nearly good enough for Arsenal/Liverpool etc they will be great for us.

Benteke, Sakho were good to start, but big wages made them a millstone around our neck

I completely agree with you; be a bit patient with players - not everyone will hit the ground running immediately. Nketiah definitely has qualities and is a good contrast to JP to change games up - just like he did on Sunday.

Interestingly, Glasner has mentioned several times about the lack of a proper pre season and he is completely correct. Players arriving very late in the window, others going out, some not properly fit and taking time to adapt to his methods.
Whilst Kamada doesn't fit the above description, he too is someone who I suspect will take time. I thought he made a decent impact when he came on against Brighton - maybe the fruits of having 3 weeks to work with him.
