My gripe with Glasner

Surely one of the best things about Glasner is that desire to win every game, with his uncompromising mindset leading to the club not only daring to dream, but also achieving that dream.
The long unbeaten runs( even when facing top teams) the trophies, the appearances in Europe.

The majority of players have improved dramatically under him, so personally I'm prepared to cut him some slack if so far he hasn't worked his magic on Uche and Esse.

There may be a part of thinking that if we had retained Eze and Olise , as unrealistic that may be, we'd currently be in the top 3 and pushing hard for Champions League.

Guehi was interviewed post match yesterday and revealed that previously if results didn't go the right way the attitude was 'well that's ok ' i.e know your place.

He said that has all changed under Glasner and personally I'm delighted that he's sparked that ambition in the team, even if he hasn't quite been able to do that with the board.

Football management is such a precarious profession that planning for the future probably isn't a priority for many.
With Palace it's noticeable that we're more likely to try young defenders or midfield players than we are strikers which is a bit odd when thinking about the relative risks involved of them not being up to it.

Management is a fickle and difficult thing.

We simply could not have had a better 2025.

We have the 4th best goal difference in the Premier League after 14 games.

Top clubs don't bemoan winning when playing crap.

Here's to 2026 and hoping teams start rotating players when they come up against us, so they can keep their best team for the winnable games!

Am writing this having been very pleased that West Ham scored tonight, so there may be a gloss on comments this eve...

I can't explain this rationally but even though we are 5th I feel "flat".

Perhaps it's because we have been poor in the last few games. It's odd that even under Roy when we were grinding out results I never felt this way. perhaps because nicking a result was the level of my expectation.

I blame Glasner, he has given me that most dangerous of all football feelings, hope.

Anyway I am sure normal service will be resumed shortly, Glasner will leave in a huff, JP, Wharton, Munoz and Guehi will be gone by the summer so we can all relax and look forward to a relegation battle next year.

😀

I believe we are on the glidepath to challenging times with the revolving door very much in operation.

I don't have any gripe with with Glasner, seems to me he's done a fine job thus far. Perhaps by being successful he's raised expectations.
Parish said the most important thing is to stay in the Premiership. So far we've achieved that, it wasn't always pretty (thanks Roy!) but we appear to have stabilised into a relatively well run mid-table club.
Glasner has taken us that bit further, it was about time as it looked like we were just treading water and there to make up the numbers. Now we have the opportunity to climb a couple of rungs. How long can it last? How far ahead does the board plan?
Whether Glasner stays or goes, I'm hoping the club finds the means to consolidate recent success.

Its very hard to have any gripes given our position etc.

IMO he should be giving Esse and Uche a little more game time.

Especially in certain games e.g. Brentford, 2-0 up and Sarr plays the full 95 mins. Surely thats time to give Uche 20 mins? Even if its just to give Sarr a break.

But, the guy clearly knows what he is doing, so appreciate its very easy to ask for a player who I dont see train to play more!

I have been a supporter since the 60s, avidly behind the team through thick and thin and my word there have been some challenging periods in that time.
I never envisaged a scenario whereby we would win the FA Cup, ride high in the top division in 5th place and there would still be 'Gripes' with the manager.

Nobody's perfect.

I think Glasner should listen to some of the fans positive suggestions on here, and the BBS. I think he has a closed mindset. We have many centuries of footballing expertise, here on HOL, and I'm sure Glasner could only benefit from reading comments on team selection and substitutions on here and incorporating them into his tactics.
From my own comments put forward during play, I'm pretty sure we'd be around 20th in the league.

Mr Glasner is without a doubt a top class manager. No doubt plenty of clubs will have him pencilled in as their potential target. He's clearly a man who is very on top of every aspect of his job within the club. The players certainly respect him and buy into his philosophy. As to him not giving game time to some of the squad, we don't know what he sees in training day in, day out.

As you can tell, I am quite a fan of OG.

From a 'We are Palace' article :

"However, Oliver Glasner left Frankfurt in unpleasant circumstances, departing in May 2023 after a run of ten Bundesliga matches without a win, which led to a fallout internally at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Interestingly, German news outlet SPORT BILD cited a lack of rotation as one of the reasons for the collapse"

To be fair though, squad rotation is only really a viable method if you are a club like Man City who could field two decent PL sides with what is available in their squad. With the greatest respect to Frankfurt and us, we don't have that luxury.

Ollie can see the same as us, outside of our best eleven, there’s not a lot of top class quality to call on, hence his comments in a recent interview
Even Burnley looked stronger after their changes the other night, we usually look weaker when the substitutions start

All of our starting 11 against Burnley have some level of international experience, be it full internationals, subs, or youth. Seems like this is the experience required to mount any reasonable type of challenge on the league or Europe.

Why do you think Esse has an attitude problem?
I know a couple of people that know him well, they couldn’t speak higher of him, a lovely kid apparently.
Even Glasner says that. Problem was that we all saw was his performance in the cup v Millwall. You can't risk that kind of showing.
