Maxence Lacroix

These are the lines, at the end of the BBC bit on Andersen leaving:

----

Palace line up Lacroix as Andersen replacement

Palace have bid £12m plus £2m in add-ons for Wolfsburg centre-back Maxence Lacroix as they look to replace the departing Andersen.

The 24-year-old only has one year on his contract and sources say the player wants to make the move to the Eagles.

Lacroix has worked with Palace manager Oliver Glasner before, when Glasner was in charge of Wolfsburg.

----

One thing I will add is that it would seem a bit too coincidental that we're going after players that OG knows, if he has no say on transfers. Also, would he be going after them for the sake of it or would he be pursuing players he is confident will deliver for him at his new club?

If Lacroix 'wants to make the move to the Eagles' that also bodes well, even if I cannot unsee or unhear 'Maxine' in my head.

Based solely on YouTube clips he's certainly got some pace and looks like a unit. He does seem to go to ground a lot, unsurprisingly successfully in his highlights reel.

My only concern is that Glasner seems like he wants a team in his own image. That's great until he leaves and then decides he wants to sign these players for his new club.

a valid point. One wonders what Dougie's take on it all is, especially after the long chat the two of them had earlier in the week. I have to say that I would trust Freedman ahead of Glasner or any other manager - long term v short term.

That’s what some might imagine but I can’t believe that a PL club will just let decide a current manager who will leave and who will join. Surely he should and probably will have his opinions and wishes considered but I assume he is not the only one.

You would hope not.

Or we could sign players the manager doesn't rate and won't play them unless desperate, as happened with Roy in charge.

Think there is something between only buying players the manager doesn’t rate and let him replicate a former successful squad in another league, at other times, under different conditions and so on. But OK, OG and the club have more experience, have better insight and are better paid than I for finding a way to work things out. I just don’t assume that a PL club will base transfer decisions with long-time implications only on a current manager’s decision because of a sensartional run over 7 games under preferable conditions. Which doesn’t mean that I don’t rate OG, in contrary. I just try not to worship anybody in football just to wish him to hell after a bad run a few weeks later.

Guehi and Andersen going so with Olise gone what looked like being the best season for years lost to the money men .Playing a dangerous game as if both go other clubs will certainly realise we are desperate for a defence and up the stakes Any views on riad/richards /Lerma holding senario
