And who is the replacement for the same money?

I know it's a Mateta thread, but I agree with you about Muñoz. I think he is our most valuable player. He'd be our greatest loss and the most difficult player to replace.I never go in for this type of hypothetical debate now.
SO many people said, ‘Who would ever replace Roy Hodgson and keep us in the Premier League?’
Similarly, who could replace Andersen, Olise or Eze?
Well I hadn’t heard of Lacrois, knew very little of Glasner and had no idea that Ismailia Sarr would be half as good as he has been.
I had also never heard of Daniel Munõz when he came in to replace club legend Joel Ward and Munõz is now arguably the best right sided wing back in the Country.
I have no issue with selling Mateta for a decent fee and sourcing a replacement for the same money (or less).

Like Munoz, I love Mateta and think he's a great player and character. However, any player who doesn't want to be here should go, for the right price of course.
It's beginning to annoy me a little that some of these lads are leaking this stuff. We have just won two trophies, are in Europe, fifth in the league, have one of the best managers in Europe and some of the best fans in the PL.
We are a very different proposition to a couple of years ago and many of our players are getting international call ups to some of the best countries in the world.
It's such a good moment for our club and if any of them don't want to remain a part of that then that's up to them. We have a good track record of replacing seemingly irreplaceable players and still progressing.
Truth is we don't know the ins and outs of the contract talks, (if any of this is to be believed) i'm sure with the wage cap even if they offered him max maybe it just isn't enough in his mind to warrant signing what could possibly be his last contract in professional football, especially if he has dreams of playing in Serie AA year ago i mentioned we must get Mateta an improved deal. He is simply
Not being paid enough for his role in the team and we will likely lose him this summer when we are obliged to cash in.
To replace him will cost at least £20 million and that isn’t we are extremely lucky. I don’t see why giving him a few extra mil over a few years was so hard to do.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment, I think you're underestimating how difficult it is for any club, let alone a 'smaller' club like ours to find a 15+ goals per season striker. Your Michu's, Pukki's, Toney's and Mateta's, come around once in a blue moon.I never go in for this type of hypothetical debate now.

Seems Glenn Murray agrees with you . . .If I tell the truth, I can see Mateta doing a Zaha. I have no idea why but I don't see him doing that well somewhere else. I think we stuck with him when he was, frankly, awful. And we took him to heart. He won't get that patience in Italy.

Defenders in particular are far simpler to replace.
My view is that we should try to convince him to lock in to a better contract. His finishing can be hit and miss but the amount of chances he creates is a testament to how good he is.
At his stage of his career it's his last chance for a big move and you wouldn't begrudge him the opportunity at AC Milan (if rumours are true).

I mean you could argue to the fact that a lot of strikers would score 15 a season with the service he's getting. 2nd only to Haarland this season.
I agree, listen, we all love JPM and while I dont want to take anything away from what he has achieved in the last two seasons the man is NOT a prolific striker. If we sold JPM and brought in another striker or decided to promote Eddie to first choice it is my belief that striker would get just as many goals. I agree with a lot of this but you do not mention JP's hold up play. The cup final showed the value of this and the others (probably) do not have that.I agree, listen, we all love JPM and while I dont want to take anything away from what he has achieved in the last two seasons the man is NOT a prolific striker. Its really not the No.9 thats important in our team. Its the creators. We are 100% geared up towards creating great chances and have Pino, Sarr, Wharton, Kamada, Mitchell and Munoz all instructed to look for the forward pass, cut back, cross, whatever that will put the striker in on goal.
