Marc Guéhi

Glasner and Parish both knew that a decision on Guehi would be necessary in the summer.
Glasner referred to a meeting in March when this was discussed and the conclusion was that Glasner understood and was on board with Guehi leaving PROVIDED that a proper replacement joined and was ready to participate in pre season.

He’s a methodical manager, strict on positioning, patterns of play and working as a unit.
What he’s now pointing out is,
a) no proper replacement has been found
b) there has been no opportunity to integrate a new player into his playing methodology.

Therefore, to try and do a deal on the last day of the window undermines the understanding he had in March and is a backward step for the club.

This is about professionalism and nothing to do with ‘loyalty’ or selfishness.’
As he has been at pains to point out it’s not about Glasner, it’s about Crystal Palace and what’s best for the team.
If the club ignore his professional opinion, at least they can't say they weren’t warned.
Could Glasner do more to convince Guehi to stay, rather than keep passing the buck to Parish?

Maybe Marc or his agent are being selfish. There can never be certainty until there is a contract but for some reason Liverpool have utmost confidence they will get him for free next season. There is no market or bidding war, just Liverpool deciding what an extra year of Marc would be worth to them.
I think Marc has Liverpool at the top of his list so it all makes sense.

I think we must think of what Guehi wants as well, he has been a superb Professional for us, and i do not believe it is the 35/40m that is the problem, he wants to go, so what do you do to a superb human being?

They will be confident but its still a risk, Madrid, barca, munich, city, start showing interest, there's no difference in gulf, you're just going to whoever offers most money.

A fair point.

But for Liverpool to net Guehi for £35m. would be an absolute steal. He will be the best defender in the Premiership in two years' time if he continues to develop as he has.

Genuine question: talk's cheap and there are no easy answers. I'm sure the sale of Guehi is a very complex issue. But if he's going to leave, let it be for £70m, not £35m. Can he not sign a three year deal today to stay at Palace on the understanding that he will be allowed to leave at Christmas or in the summer (the latter not discolsed, obviously)? If it's only the immediacy of the sale that depresses the price then that would have been dealt with. Cynical, I know, but Football is the most cynical of games. How else do you explain why the team that is probably going to win the Premiership anyway can acquire an asset so cheaply.

Whatever, Glasner will be beyond cheesed off. He's working his nuts off, is brilliant at what he does and is expected to shop in the bargain basement, if he is allowed to but at all.

I don't think Glasner has helped Guehi on this, If Guehi wants to go, wont sign a contract, Glasner is the manager, not the owner, i think keep saying we cant sell him does nobody any favors, if Guehi wants to go, and Parish wants the money it will happen, whatever Glasner wants doesn't always happen.

I think Parish could do more to get Guehi to stay.

If Guehi is going to get a big sign on fee at season end then why doesn’t Parish offer him say £5m up front now to sign a 1 year contract extension with a £45m buy out clause. Lots of clubs will be willing to meet that and Palace will still net £35m-£40m at the end of this season. Everyone is happy and gives us the time to find a proper replacement.

Why would Guehi do that, he wants to go to Liverpool.

Why would Guehi do that, Liverpool might buy somebody else instead of him

Then Liverpool is not the right club for him. He’ll have a wide choice of top teams at £45m next season and Liverpool would be stupid not to be one of them.
To me, for whatever reason he has his heart set on Liverpool, a big CD signing by Liverpool might ruin his dream, personally i would lock him in the Toilet (without phone) until 7-15

Well the saga ends today one way or another.
I just hope our new signings don't include an Isac or Wissa who have gone on strike and forced moves.
I think the Guehi's of this world will become increasingly rare in modern day Football.

Early in the window my hope was we would sell him. Now if it happens it’s likely to completely unsettle our progress going forward. OG has made that clear. And when he says , we have agreed he can’t go if we don’t have a serious replacement, then that’s the kind of thing that wrecks relationships beyond repair.

I understand 28 year old Wissa , with one year on his contract, is off to Newcastle for £55 million.
And yet we're supposed to be snatching at £35+ million from Liverpool for Guehi, buying an £80 million centre back at less than half of his value?

Make it make sense!
