Marc Guéhi

Honestly I haven’t got a clue what you are on about.

Next season Guehi goes on a free. This season we could get circa £40m for him therefore the opportunity cost of having him play for one season is £40m or £770,000 per week. Do you seriously think that represents value for money for one player when we could replace him with someone on a 5 year contract for less?
By tomorrow? You think? Seriously? 😱

The ONLY person this doesn’t suit is Parish.

I can’t be the only one thinking Guehi must realise he’s young & the seasons well underway, he has to stay fit between September and May 2026 and he gets his dream move to whichever club he wants with a signing on fee of 20mil.

The reason the Manager wants to keep him is obvious.

So Parish squirming about a lost 30m doesn’t sit well with me. And maybe he needs to ask the new Billionaire investor why it matters? Could we maybe have £30m from the Billionaire who owns 25% and hasn’t been to a game or spent a penny, meaning we literally haven’t lost a thing when Marc walks away for free.
The only person which is held responsible to balance the books is Parish.

Perhaps it's just Parish trying to get Guehi to sign that contract extension?

Perhaps Guehi wants to stay and leave for free next year? I remember parish saying in an interview "Marc can stay if he signs a new contract"

Marc can stay whether he signs a new contract or not. His contract doesn’t expire until the end of the season.

Marc has a contract for another year, if he doesn't want to go until the end of the season and then go for a free there is absolutely nothing Parish can do. This was always one of the risks on the buy young and sell for a profit scheme. Parish is not in control of this situation, Guehi is.

The books couldn’t be more balanced. It’s about time this Board backed this team because we have a real chance here of something special e.g. Champions League place finish. We’d need to keep Guehi and sign 3 tomorrow - but why not? We are no where near breaking PSR (fair play to Parish for that) and our Yank is a Billionaire. Yes he wants a return on his investment, if we qualify for Champs League he’d double his money.

For once, please just do something for the fans, the team and the Manager. And if truly the Billionaires would open their wallet if Parish didn’t have deciding say all the time, then it’s time for Parish to do the right thing as well, as the ‘skintest’ of the Board Members. And he’d go to a heroes goodbye, should be given a statue, I’m all for it but let’s get this team pushing and establish ourselves.

end of the day, mucked this one up....

If Guehi made it clear he will run contract down, which he is entitled to do, parish should have got his replacement in this summer and sold Guehi early doors.

Or, get his replacement in and blood him during the year, moving Guehi to the bench here and there, not so much as an F You, but to show that the future of the club is more important...

Honestly, it Is so freshing how honest and professional Guehi has been in all of this - he deserves better.

Glasner also said
“But I don’t have the final decision. You know about Adam and Eve and the apple? The whole situation is tempting. If you want to progress, we have to keep him. If we accept the offer, maybe falling a step back, we say OK.”

I’m not trying to be deliberately controversial, but is OG actually being selfish?
As a fan I would love nothing more than for Mark to sign a new long term contract, but we know that’s not going to happen. So the club have the two choices in front of them. Sell Mark now for around £35-40m or keep him till the end of the season and see him walk away for free. Now this is where I think OG may be being a bit selfish.
As it stands it looks like OG is unlikely to extend his own contract (we can all understand why!) and clearly wants the best possible team for this season only. But is keeping Mark the best option for the club? That has been discussed at length, and I’m glad I don’t have to make that decision.
Now if OG was committed to the longer term of the club and signed a new contact himself then I feel that he would then have the right to decide if Mark should stay or go based on the bigger picture of what is best for the club, and not just what he wants for this season!

Of course he's being selfish, all he cares about is having the strongest squad possible, thats all he has to worry about as a manager. We're now in a lose lose position, this should have been sorted out weeks ago, now we lose our captain and have to replace in a day or we lose him for nothing.

That’s the crux of it! OG is in it for the short term, whereas SP has to do what’s best for the long term. These two concepts are never going to align.
Don’t get me wrong OG is an amazing manager and the best we have ever had (sorry Mr Coppell) but the club is bigger than Mark and OG and even SP for that matter!

Glasner and Parish both knew that a decision on Guehi would be necessary in the summer.
Glasner referred to a meeting in March when this was discussed and the conclusion was that Glasner understood and was on board with Guehi leaving PROVIDED that a proper replacement joined and was ready to participate in pre season.

He’s a methodical manager, strict on positioning, patterns of play and working as a unit.
What he’s now pointing out is,
a) no proper replacement has been found
b) there has been no opportunity to integrate a new player into his playing methodology.

Therefore, to try and do a deal on the last day of the window undermines the understanding he had in March and is a backward step for the club.

This is about professionalism and nothing to do with ‘loyalty’ or selfishness.’
As he has been at pains to point out it’s not about Glasner, it’s about Crystal Palace and what’s best for the team.
If the club ignore his professional opinion, at least they can't say they weren’t warned.

Maybe Marc or his agent are being selfish. There can never be certainty until there is a contract but for some reason Liverpool have utmost confidence they will get him for free next season. There is no market or bidding war, just Liverpool deciding what an extra year of Marc would be worth to them.
