Main Stand redevelopment thread

The obvious way to increase capacity would be to put another tier on the Arthur Waite Stand.

There are a dozen houses or so behind the stand which could be purchased if light restriction was an issue.
You could probably put 5k on a top tier with some more executive boxes and that would give us our 40k. The boxes in the Whitehorse could then be removed and add some more seats to that end.

It's all about money.
I agree But we would have to build similar housing for the residents, unless we go down the Liverpool/Spurs route ( allegedly). Building another tier on Whitehorse would surely be the quickest and cheapest, however you would lose the hospitality boxes if they were not relocated first, so a big nono

I suspect the houses behind the Whitehorse would be an issue but have no idea on how that would work. I'd say they'd lose light?
It was always a pain how we did that end. It could have been another Homesdale and we would have something like 33,000 capacity. Obviously then, doing the main stand would give us 40 plus thousand - which historically is about right for us. I don't think we need more than 40 odd thousand. I think 50 thousand would be pushing it for us and we'd lose some atmosphere.
I can only really think of two massive games at Selhurst where we did push 50k. I was at one but the other is just before my time. You were probably there.

I fail to see, how the houses at whitehorse end would lose any light. There happens to be a big Sainsbury's supermarket between any stand and the houses, they look straight out their windows and that all they see at the back.
It wasn't an issue with the Holmesdale stand, which towers above the houses opposite.

Not if they are privately owned, surely. You just offer the owners an inflated price for their house and help with the move. Then you could even knock them down.
When the Whitehorse was reduced, it was by roughly half. It only holds just over 2k now so I doubt there would be enough room to add much more than double that unless there is a radical design.

The Arthur has more scope for increase, and its roof sits almost at ground level. Lots of potential.

Not easy to deal with houses with numerous regulations to follow and organisations and people to deal with. If any of the houses are social housing, alternative housing must be found and agreed upon before you can purchase the house.

Probably knocking down and rebuilding white horse would be easier depending on how much Sainsbury’s want
Are they likely to be?

I agree, also would it need to be much higher than it is now?

Good point

Would be ideal to buy all the houses directly surrounding the ground and rent them out, then we could do what we wanted, when we wanted to do it.

Surely the smart thing would have been to have been slowly buying them on the sly. Mostly through natural attrition so not to raise any attention.

How do you know they haven't?
