Leeds vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Ooo, are you a bigger fan than me? 'I highly doubt you know more than me' 🤣
Comedy gold! Bit schoolyard wouldn't you say?
I'm not going to bite and start showing my war wounds but I'd imagine I could go a fair way back in time supporting Palace myself. Not that that would matter to us true supporters. You were there when we beat Burnley? So were 52,000 others. Whats your point?
Calling someone a keyboard warrior for disagreeing with you makes you seem very intimidated. Maybe its you that needs the Weetabix. Might give you a bit of confidence. So sorry you feel harrassed. Maybe we should all agree with you to make you feel all warm and cuddly? 🤣
You are the comedy. And yes I was there with 52,000 others. I am only harassed by rude, opinionated people who don’t know or were never taught how to post politely on a fan’s forum. And I definitely don’t need a cuddle, least of all from you. 😊

Johnson may have come good. We'll never know. Palace saw a way out of that deal and understandably jumped at it.
Nketiah made an unselfish decision at Leeds. It turned out to be the wrong one. Had Sarr scored we'd all be saying what a team player he is so thats frankly pathetic if thats the biggest put down of EN you can come up with.
Finally, if you think JSL is a donkey you clearly know nothing about footballers and strikers in particular. They need time to settle, they need time to work out how the manager wants them to play but most importantly they need to get used to their feeders. They need to know who they are playing with and what kind of balls will be fed into them. Up till very recently all the attacking creators around Strand-Larson have been changing making life even more difficult.
Finally, Strikers like no other position are confidence players. If he scores one goal he is far more likely to score in the next one. And so on. His confidence is growing game by game. I'd expect JSL to do well this season with a settled midfield around him.
Next you'll be saying Mateta is World class!

In relation to the Nketiah chance I would respectfully disagree. In the away section we had the perfect side on view and Eddie was put clean through ahead of the defender, he didn’t open up and you could see he was only at about 80%. He looked to be reluctant to sprint at full speed. He was clean through and had a one on one with the goalkeeper yet he turned back inside and only then looked for a team mate.

It didn’t look to be unselfish play at the time, he bottled it and I imagine he was worried about his hamstring, hence not going flat out.

On 1st viewing on the tv it looked like he bottled it but I saw a replay that showed his angle wasn’t that great.

Then he takes the next (harder) chance!

Understood, fair enough.

I was going by my view of it at the game and also based on his general lack of sprinting and closing down.

It will be interesting to see if he stays fit during the international break and is in our squad for Forest / Lyon.

I only watched it on the TV and like many my initial thought was "why didn't he shoot himself?" but when I saw the angle on the replay, it wasn't that good and even the co-commentater (ex-pro? - can't remember his name) said on reflection he thought Eddie had made the right decision in passing inside for Sarr. Having said that, Eddie did look sluggish.

He looked overweight on Sunday and unwilling to press or really stretch his legs 😕

if you've ever had a hamstring injury you would know you are unable to run. It takes time to heal and your recovery is slow to avoid re-doing the same injury.

This would have been monitored by CPFC staff and he would have had regular CT scans/MRIs to assess the progress. Once healed he would have been having individual training sessions and his running would be monitored - slow jog, medium run, building up to flat out etc.

Supposedly he trained fully all week without any issues. This could not have happened if he still had any lingering issues.

IMHO it would have been very unlikely he was worried about his hamstring, else he wouldn't have been allowed to re-join training.

Fully agree with you comments, my only added comment would be that JSL hold up play is quiet exceptional at times and I'm sure like you have said he will start scoring more regularly when the others and Sage have worked out the best way to service him better to allow him to score more!

During my playing time I did my hamstring once, my calf once and my groin and quad a number of times. I was always wary when returning to playing but I wasn’t blessed with the medical support and monitoring of a Premier League Club.

Perhaps he’s just a lazy b****** then but I watched him closely on Sunday (he was only on the pitch for eleven minutes). He didn’t close down properly he didn’t press, he didn’t track back at anything more than a gentle jog. When attacking his sprints did not seem at full pace and when put clean through his fresh legs could not outpace a defender who had already played over 85 minutes.

If Gozo (or Devenny) come on for the last 12-15 minutes they sprint round at full pace and put themselves about, there was none of that from Eddie on Sunday.

I accept what you are saying above and I am not disagreeing with it, apart from a slight qualification on your last sentence. I was always wary when returning from a muscle injury and to me it looked to be exactly the same for Nketiah on Sunday.

He's clearly not overweight.....

Team instructions were very different vs Leeds. The front line weren't pressing all game. Eddie was jsut slotting into what the team had been instructed to do

When he came on he looked to me to be a lot heavier than I’ve previously seen him and even people around me were also commenting that he looked slow and overweight.

I don't think he had enough gap to and space between him and the keeper to cut across inside to remove the defender, and was too far out for an effective shot. Had he shot it would've been stopped or blocked, the pass was marginally out. Give the defenders some credit here

Fair enough, here’s hoping he can stay fit and deliver the goods in the games that we have coming up.

I cant agree there it only shutdown when he tried to take it closer , I would never criticised him if he did and missed

If I'm honest, I think he should have shot himself too. It was a weird decision that even took Sarr by surprise. I still think however that it was very lame to use that as the reason for claiming Nketiah is a waste of money
