Is Glasner the problem?

To be fair I don't remember many people on here who were calling for him to be sacked.

I think most of us could see what he was trying to do and were prepared to give him time. That plus the board not really backing him at the start of the season !
If you read back through this thread, you'll see there were a few calling for him to go. I'm so glad they didn't get their way cos we wouldn't have won the Cup.

I dont pretend to know more about football than the next bloke but I'm not going to lie, I thought it was ridiculous at the time and it has proven to be a ridiculous viewpoint now that sacking Glasner would have had any positive impact on results whatsoever.
As was said by many at the time, Olise was an important player for us and was sold meaning Glasner had to find a different way.
Our international players Wharton, Eze, Hendo, Guehi all returned to training with less than a weeks rest. Daniel and Lerma didn't get much more than that.
Our new signings were mad way too late in the window to be able to make any kind of an impact until late September/October.
Glasner himself is a winner. People sneered at the Europa league and described it as tin pot which was laughable. Its the second biggest trophy in Europe and he had to overcome Barcelona amongst other big clubs in order to win it.

Even without our lifelong memory of an FA cup win this season we are making strides forward and breaking new ground all the time. 52 points with a chance of 1 or 3 more?
Parish has indicated Glasner will be expected to honor his contract at the very least. As he said in the dressing room Saturday this group if we stick together can achieve amazing things together. Hopefully they will heed his wisdom and want to stick around for next year's adventure.

I personally will always be grateful to Glasner for delivering something I wondered if I'd ever see in my lifetime. A major trophy. Lets all now move forward with the same goal. Getting behind the team and hoping for more success.

I didn't call for him to go, but I did think it would be a good idea to adapt to the players available to him this season.

We were no longer in a position to retain the ball as well or press as high as at the end of last season.

Glasner has changed the approach.
We look more defensively resolute, lethal in transition and the best team from set pieces.

Al credit to Glasner, the staff and the players for finding a way to achieve the very good results after the poor start.

C'mon, it's football! Without the constructive criticism here, he would never have achieved such great performances! 😉 🙂
BTW, I once met a lady at work who immediately showed me that she didn't like me. She's been my wife for over 10 years now.
Does she know this and do you let her out the cupboard from time to time? 🤣🤣

(sorry couldn’t help myself… no offence meant)

I made my first Palace bets in the summer as I am not a gambling man. One was for us to win the league and the other for the champions league qualification. Then 6 or 7 of our players made international finals and olise left. I knew there and then my bets were done for without kicking a ball. But that is the belief I have in this team under Glasner, no expectation but strongly believed we could do something special.
Those first 8 games were worse than I expected I admit and Kamada playing despite looking off the pace started to concern me a lot.
By the end of the season Kamada was a strong member of the squad and we had won the FA cup…..I take that as a win despite losing the bet

I backed us to win the cup at 16-1!

7 of our starting XI completely missed pre-season due to getting to international finals and have looked off the pace (esp. Guehi, Munoz) or had injury issues (Wharton, Lerma), likely as a result.

We sold 2 of the other 4.

We bought 3 players expected to be in the starting XI in the last 5 minutes of the window, prior to an international break, meaning the actual team we now have has trained together for about 3 weeks when every other club has had 3 months. As a result, the defence in particular look like they've never met. The next game will be another brand new defence (Lacroix, Guehi, Chalobah).

It will turn around but we're going to have to write off ~the first 10 games so we can forget about a top half finish already.
Pretty happy with this. As the season has gone on we've looked fitter and fitter which has made the high press more effective.

Of those that had the international finals, Guehi, Munoz, Wharton, Mateta, Eze have all been miles better in the second half of the season than the first.

Once Lacroix and Sarr had time to train alongside those they play with (who weren't here), they've fit in brilliantly.

Lesson for future years - get as much of the squad together as early as possible! And trust in Oli.

Those of us on here backing OG realised the impacts of all the above. Even then, performances were only a little short of expectations in some of those early games.

As to getting the squad together asap, the club has a measure of control over transfers - as SP acknowledged at the weekend. International tournaments are of course another thing !
