Is Glasner the problem?

I know this is really harsh but Eze has probably cost us 5 points this season with his terrible finishing. He saved us a point at Chelsea but he should have scored against United and again yesterday. His poor finishing is costing us games. He has an xG of 2.74 but only one goal. He is our most important attacking player now Olise has left so if he's not performing we're in trouble. I'm not sure what changing the manager does if our forwards can't finish? We have some top players so hopefully a lot of this is just down to confidence with Eze and the team as a whole and once that first win comes we can get going.
Whilst he was guilty of missing good chances against United and Liverpool. The opposition arguably missed better chances, specifically Jota for Liverpool. So where it would have been great had Eze scored his chance, you could also say if United and Liverpool had scored theirs then we would have been two or 3 down.

Jota missed a sitter, but to be fair scored the winner.

Eze isn't the only one at fault, but some of his feel more painful.

At this level its a game of fine margins.

We are letting almost exactly the amount that we deserve to. We are scoring less goals than we should be, xG vs Actual. Its a proxy for poor finishing.

Ironically only Utd have a worse xG vs Actual than us.

I suspect that some comfort will be taken from some of the underlying stats. 1.28 xG (13th) and 1.42 xGA (10th). So around mid table on paper. Bottom 3 on grass.

Glasner is attempting to play the same way as last season , but without the same tools at his disposal.

He’s lost arguably his three best passers of the ball - Anderson from the back, Wharton from midfield (through lack of form and fitness) and Olise at the front .
Our passing has been sloppy in every game this season, and the forwards are not receiving the clever, threaded, correctly weighted passes in the penalty area that they were on our good run last season.

Hopefully Wharton will return to form and fitness, but it’s less clear how we compensate for the loss of passing range from the other two.

We have to find a way of retaining possession in midfield and being more assured in our delivery and finishing in the final third.
The ball from Lacroix to Sarr for the shot at the end of the first half (which Allison had to save), and the cross from Sarr for the Nketiah offside goal in the first minutes should be par for the course rather than the exception.
Better delivery should lead to more chance creation and hopefully more goals.

Ironically I imagine most of that Man Utd terrible Actual vs XG record is due to the first 45 mins when they played us!

As I've posted before, in my view the main reasons why we are mis-firing at the moment are these ;

No integrated pre season. Six first team players missed the clubs full pre season preparations

Departure of three players that would always be in the first team squad selection

New players coming in need time to gel although OG doesn't seem to have a handle on where best they are utilised.

For once I'm looking forward to an International break. Hopefully it will give OG and the squad some time together to work things out on the training ground. Putting in a full 90+minute shift in a game would help.

I think he needs 4 points from the next 3 games otherwise it's hard to justify him keeping the job.

I hear what you're saying but I'm talking about us, a team with far fewer options and resources. Eze still has his moments in games, but this is different to the situation under Vieira. Under Glasner he is getting to play a prominent role, is seeing lots of the ball and is getting chances to assist and score but it's just not clicking when it really matters. Clearly you don't drop Eze so all we can really hope is that his confidence returns. Of our forwards JP is the only one who according to the stats is where he should be in terms of goals v xG, but when you look at the stats it is mainly Eze who is missing the big chances. Maybe having a break from England duties will do him some good. Just to clarify, I love Eze and am in no way suggesting he is not good enough or should be dropped.

It is as plain as a pikestaff that the Glasner 'Honeymoon' is well and truly over with disgruntled supporters aiming shot and shell in his direction.
In terms of results, i have a 'Feeling in my water' that our points tally will increase after the Nottm Forest and Tottenham encounters.
We might get a point against Forest, might. We will lose to Spurs - we always do. So we'll likely get zero points from those two games. Parish's finger will be on the trigger then won't it?

OG put out the team that most of us have been crying out for yesterday, and the first half was our worst performance so far. He wasn't the new Guardiola last season and he's not the new Peter Taylor now - our great run of form last season was mainly down to all our players (apart from Doucoure) finally being fit and available - once Wharton recovers from this nagging injury and we get Doucoure back we will improve - the back three is starting to gel with Lecroix improving every game, but we still haven't found the right combination in attack, Eze, Eddie, JPM, Sarr and Kamada - there's a winning combination in there somewhere, West Ham fans who saw Kamada play for Frankfurt say he was brilliant. But if we are going to play with wing backs then we need an upgrade on Mitchell, and OG will have considered Schlupp but obviously thinks it would not improve things.
I agree with pretty much all of this. People willing to completely write off Kamada based on a few performances. A Europa League winner does not become sh*t over night. Lets not forget Lazio had an option to extend his contract and were furious when he refused to sign it. Clubs of this stature are not idiots. Kamada needs more time to adjust. He'll be a good signing I'm sure.
I remain 100% convinced OG is the right man for the job. Getting rid of him at the first sign of a rocky spell not only sends out a negative message to any future managerial talent out there when thinking about joining Palace, it would also be a decision the club would end up regretting IMO.
We coaxed a Europa League winning manager out of semi retirement to join Palace. Once we had him signed up we sold Olise, Andersen and Ayew and let Rak-Saki go out on loan (a player OG was said to be keen to use this season). He then gets four of our best players back from summer tournaments tired or injured or both. Then incoming players are brought in right as the window shuts so they have no time to bed in.
Then you look closer at our results. Should have got something from Brentford, should have got something from Everton. When you look at the penalty incident against Liverpool that wasn't given and Eze's tame shot that he should have scored from I would argue that we should have got something from the Liverpool game too.
This is going to take time and I'd even hazard a guess that we may not get much in October either. Forest in good form, terrible record against Spuds but I still believe we will come good.

I think the very least OG deserves is half a season. If we are still where we are now at Christmas then maybe its time to accept the direction we are going isn't working. Until then I think we just have to be realistic and accept its going to be small steps and a gradual turn around. Impatience and hysteria doesn't really do anything except frutrate and wind us fans up even more.

Agree with all of that bar the last sentence. Disaster excepted (i.e. we start getting battered weekly and it is clear the players have given up) I'd not panic until at least January.

A friend 'phoned me and mentioned a major sinkhole on Croydon road, buses are being diverted etc. My first thought was Palace have fallen into a sinkhole and Glasner doesn't know what to do, I think he might get two games to turn it around. This cannot go on much longer.

Mirrors exactly my thoughts. IMHO the mentality “Europe we Come” after a good run of seven games and “Fire the incompetent manager” after a poor run of seven games leads to nothing.

To be fair, I think the European ambition was on the expectation that we would keep Olise and also strengthen the squad.

In terms of firing the manager, it's not something I would like to see happen but it depends on Parish's nerve holding.

That didn't happen enough, Sarr continually got himself in good positions with Lacroix passing the ball inside or leaving too late to benefit from.

I would suggest Sarr wears a yellow flashing beacon of his head to make him more visible.

Seriously though I felt this opportunity was continually wasted.

Did you think Vieira was the best thing since sliced bread too, i hope Glasner is great and goes from strength to strength, but i fear it is going to end in a desperate hope for survival again.

Maybe, but please no Roy Hodgson back as a temporary replacement,or Pardew!!

Actually no I didn't. I admit to thinking he was a breath of fresh air when he first arrived and I'll also admit to feeling his sacking was sooner than expected but that was before I learned how divisive he was in the dressing room and how destructive his presence was becoming. Vieira did an ok job. Nothing more.

Not too sure why you ask that question though. Two completely different managers and styles. One has achieved little, the other is only in his early 50s and has already taken 3 unfancied teams into either the top 4 or winning a European competition or both. You cannot compare Vieira to Glasner. Still not even sure why you brought him up tbh.
