Ipswich v CPFC Match Thread

found it a difficult watch as there was a lot riding on it.
laptop battery ran out into the 2nd half & gladly switched to radio coverage.
very pleasing 3 points and can sit back & enjoy tonights games with hopefully Chels.shagging Soton.
Everton /wolves not sure about?

I thought it was a much more direct style from Palace, 90% of the time Henderson kicking out, less fannying about at the back, the basic problem is we play 8 defensive players and only 3 attacking players, so them 3 have to be first class, Eze was getting better as the game went on, our only creative player if Wharton isn't available, Glasner will not change formation but, IMO has changed style, Nketiah, Kamada and Sarr are not good enough, Chalobah always has a mistake in him, Richards is far better, we need to get, as everyone knows, a better LWB and a top quality Left footed attacker, but you need to pay for that, if it means Guehi being sold so be it.

What's your drink of choice, Willo? I like to think Scotch or maybe Armagnac.
My choice of tipple is varied, and on several occasions I have gallivanted down the path where sobriety is NOT on the agenda with several tinctures consumed with relish.
Suffice to say my consumption does NOT include 'Scotch' but does include a selection of Lagers. In bygone days 'Real Ales' were on the agenda but no more.
Last night in celebration 'Silent Pool Black Juniper' gin made contact with my palate and jolly nice it was too !

Sarr is streaky and always has been. He is fast, direct and can be dangerous but his touch and end product are inconsistent. If they weren’t then he’d be a £40m player instead of a £13 one. However, he definitely has a place in the squad but we clearly need reinforcements in that area. What I will say is he worked incredibly hard last night when we didn’t have the ball.

My first visit to Portman Road in many years....old school town centre stadium.

A very welcome and ultimately deserved, three points.

Palace largely nullified Ipswich. My concern was that once again we ourselves offered little direct threat up top. Had we have gone a goal behind I think we would have struggled to get back into the game.

Great finish from JPM, a goal he wouldn't have scored a year ago. He's showing so much more confidence in possession.

Eze looked better in patches but is still getting his rhythm back. Mitchell had a decent game although he got turned a couple of times by Hutchinson late on. Lerma was a good half time sub for the booked Doucoure. Lacroix and Guehi looked solid.

Congrats to Henderson for the clean sheet.

Tough games ahead but we can approach them with a bit more confidence.

Ipswich season ticket holder mate of mine said Palace were well organised and the better team but goal aside our finishing was appalling. And our fans the best he’s seen - ever……

Yes, indeed.

Despite the clamour for Glasner to change the formation. It seams that with the same formation he's changed the set up significantly.

Last 2 games we've been much more rigid. Oppos haven't really had the ball in our third, now any real chances. Not a low block, but not pressing too high up.

Not set up to be super attacking, but keep clean sheets and grind out some points.

and there lies the big problem. Eze is inconsistent but our only creative talent. He has to play.
Agree Eddie N, Kamada and Sarr are aren't good enough. Eddie could be a back up to JP and the other two impact subs but that's it.
Sarr last night showed all his limitations. Terrible positioning when Munoz had the ball, terrible decision making when he had possession and his passing in general is shocking.

I know OG won't change formation but Ipswich played a flat back 4 and yet their LB was still one of their most attacking players. I think Munoz could do similar for us

I agree about OG not changing now and again to a flat back four during games. I think it’s a must otherwise we will continue with more defeats and draws than wins. Even last night you could see massive gaps in the midfield where we only have 2 centrally and that allows opponents to attack easier passing between them. Last night Ipswich were not good enough to take advantage of that. Now and again we need to close shop by switching to a back 4 with a stronger middle 3 instead we bring on substitutes just to replace players with the same formation. Perhaps I’m wrong but that’s how I see it when watching our games?

As the SKY commentators said on several occasions, we were happy to let their keeper have the ball and only began a press when he played it out. This allowed the midfielders to stay around the half way line and reduced the space available to the opponents. We were much more compact and solid in both this and the Newcastle game.

But as Glasner said in the post-match. we are still able to create chances playing in this way.

Apart from the first couple of minutes, where Henderson nearly gifted it to their attacker!
