Internationals

It’s objectively bonkers to pick Dan Burn and Konsa over Guehi but glad they have. Also weird to pick Foden and Rashford ahead of Gordon but there you go
I'd forgotten Foden and Rashford were on the pitch. The team might look better going onward if Saka and Palmer were available but so far this is pretty stodgy stuff.

New manager but same old broom. Likes of Foden and Rashford from big clubs even though they've done barely nothing this season getting the nod. In form teams like us and Forest don't get a sniff in the starting line up. Build up is so pedestrian. Teams like Spain won't be losing sleep over this.

No one capable of taking on and beating a player. Makes sense now why Eze has made the squad despite him not hitting the heights of what he is capable of this year. Someone to break the lines through skilful take-ons (skilful dribbling doesn't sound great in the modern footie parlance of double-pivots)

U21 Game looks more fun - 3-2 to France at half time - Wharton playing - but I have no idea how well. Stats say lots of attempts for England. The stat that matters says France U21 are decent up front.

Let's hope the manager doesn't make the excuse that the commentator has just made that England need better opposition to show their real talents. Surely you should be putting these weaker teams to the sword ?

The England game was an utter yawn fest. I genuinely fell asleep a couple of times. Only positive was non of our boys got injured (don’t know about Wharton in the U21s).

I mean honestly what is the point of playing Albania and Latvia in the meat of the season. Pointless rubbish.

I watched the U-21 game in which Wharton played 80 minutes. He wasn't in the match all that much. Passing was great - the only one I saw misplaced was because his teammate was not on the same wavelegth - without a defence splitting one. Defensively he was partially at fault for the first goal and a couple of times his habit of going to ground and failing to get the ball led to counter-attacks
Harwood-Bellis, whom we have been linked with, was part of a ropey defence

Er, it's a World Cup Qualifier
I know. My point is who the f*** wants to watch that. Watching a Sunday league team put 11 bodies behind the ball. Slow boring play. Same old shite.

Why not just have the qualifying games at the end of the season. No disruption to the league and the season would finish earlier because no boring international breaks. No african and South American players etc flying half way round the planet. The mini qualifying tournament could be played end of may into June. Fans would also get behind it as our clubs would have finished, same as we do for the Euros and World Cup.

Wharton looked tired in the u21 match .Much needed game time though ,England lost 5-3 and was on the England utube channel .Probably still be able to watch the whole game if interested

Albania are not a team that gets a comprehensive beating. Over the last year most of their defeats have been by the single goal.
It was comfortable tonight for England against a team that adopts a 'Low Block' approach but overall, real excitement was at a premium.

I recall the Albanian goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha whom Thomas Frank signed on a 'Free' from Lazio.I had heard back then that he was an outstanding shot-stopper and he displayed that tonight denying Bellingham from close range.

Although I agree with you, I lost interest in the England team years ago and only our boys getting in the squad have stirred a bit of interest in me again, it was a full house last night with millions watching on TV, so although the qualifiers can be a bit of a one sided farce for us, the national team will always be popular and well backed.

Let’s face it, it’ll only take the start of WW3 to stop us qualifying from this group, so all the other teams will be parking the bus

So Foden and Rashford play, and were poor, even though neither have had a good season.

Meanwhile Guehi warms the bench even though he was player of the tournament and has had a good season.

Go figure!

With the exception of Pickford, all those chosen to start the game play for teams that could be deemed to be "winners":
  • Real Madrid - Bellingham
  • Bayern Munich - Kane
  • Man City - Walker & Foden
  • Arsenal - Lewis-Skelly & Rice
  • Villa - Konsa & Rashford
  • Newcastle - Burn
  • Liverpool - Jones
All those teams either play in the CL or (in the case of Newcastle) have won a trophy this season.

Is Tuchel working on the basis he wants players who are used to having a winning mentality?

My thinking too
