He originally signed a 2.5 year contract so he has another year to run - the article implies he is out of contract this summer, which he definitely is not.
I would have no issues with him signing for longer and we clearly have no plan B, however, i think he may be reluctant to do so. He is clearly ambitious and may not want to limit his options going forward.
If we offer a decent payrise i can see maybe an extension for another 1 or 2 seasons on top of the 1 year he has left.
He is a decent person so will not want to break a contract if a better offer was to come in.
He is in a wonderful position either way and rather than money for him it may come down more to what the club's ambitions are going forward. For example, building a new stand will clearly limit our transfer plans.
