Glasner Out

The Spurs game was a real concern to me as unusually we had the majority of the possession and were winning 1-on1s as they lumbered to keep any shape or mount attacks and yet they still came out winners. Very telling.

It points to the fact that OGs system does not seem to adapt to higher possession and building and overwhelming offensively. We do have a fantastic pivot in midfield if we hang on to Wharton. And so as some have said, the Glasner system will have to adapt to new players and likely more possession and it may not translate well at all to clubs (like Man U) which are expected to control the ball for long periods yet don't have a sharp forward at the moment.

Tottenham may be the better fit all round for Oli at the end of the season

? They qualified for the Champions League by reason of their PL position of 4th.
I stand corrected they did finish 4th. I was sure they were sh!t and finished quite far down.
I did say earlier that the old grey matter isn’t up to much! 🤣 looking at the table for last year it was Man U that spent loads and we’re sh!t.

The club world cup was a totally legitimate trophy. Not designed to enrich certain clubs for financial reasons.

It’s always been the case that if Utd, call you go, for many it’s still the case, but times they change. Amorim’s, statement says everything really. He wanted to manage and the system they have wouldn’t let him.
So the money might well be good but it’s a poison chalice in so much as to many facets vital to good management control are absent, the players know this, they know you won’t be the one to turf them out, you are just the coach.
Would Glasner, want that ? I don’t know, but I bet he has management control at Palace.

It seems that a lot of points I made earlier in this post and slagged off about is becoming more understandable, Glasner is a good manager, not a great manager, he is a one trick pony, with a very good trick, he has 0% chance of being successful at a “big” club, where fans are not patient, but has every chance of being successful at Palace, a club that the fans, most, understand the problems, he would be a fool not to sign a new contract ASAP to give the club stability.

I disagree - I still think it's complete nonsense.

It’s funny, when you’re getting results, it’s because you have an identity, a certain way of playing!! As soon as you start losing, it’s because you have no plan b, you’re a one trick pony as you call it. The manager then tries to change the system and suddenly he has no identity and fans can’t see how their team is supposed to be playing.

He'd do well at other places.

But I do agree that he'd struggle at places that expect a lot of possession and to play expressive football.
Plucky underdogs is where he'll succeed.

At the end of Glasner's first season in the last 8 or so games we did dominate teams and scored lots of goals.
We had Olise and Eze supplying Mateta and scoring themselves.
We also had Wharton and Hughes controlling the midfield.
Admittedly this was for a short period, but it did indicate that Glasner can play in a different way IF he has a group of very talented players which he did have at the end of that season.

A friendly pedant statement - we're only shlt at present because of circumstances, and yes, I know what you meant to say. 😉

PS. Ah - the dreaded apostrophe!

I said on another thread a while back; It's unclear whether he'll be successful at a bigger club, with bigger expectations, and bigger egos to manage... what is clear is that he's been successful wherever he's been, and there's no reason to think he'll be any different elsewhere.

People have cited the Tottenham game - where we had the majority of possession but still lost, using it as an excuse where his game doesn't translate to a team who expect higher possession, but he's been let down so often this year by Bad finishing (and an uncharacteristic leaky defense). This was just another example of that.

It’s been a long few years since o level English.
I’m blaming fat thumbs and auto correct! Also not rereading before posting. 🤣
