Glasner is worried - and so am I !

Both Tony Pulis & big Sam Allardyce left us due to a lack of financial ambition. I believe this was the case.
Now i know we do not have the deep pockets of many Prem clubs, but surely somebody somewhere can square the circle. a) ambition and b) financial probity.

any suggestions ?
Didn’t pulis want to offer 25/30 million for wickham a season or two before we actually bought him and the board said no so he walked?

Sad, but true. The truth hurts, and whichever way it is portrayed, the board have failed the club. In any business, compliance is a minefield. Whilst it could be argued that some is wasteful and unnecessary red tape, it exists and must be adhered to, so the oversight in march in not ticking a box, however seemingly unimportant at the time, has potentially; when the club has made huge forward leaps in such a short space of time, thrown it back several years, time will of course tell. The whole appeal process was like watching the slowest ever VAR decision, we knew we were offside, but were just hoping that the little red line could be skewed a little, it wasn't. Forget what other clubs did, most would have done the same, if you fail to keep your own house in order, you leave yourself wide open.

It could be argued that had it been a more 'fashionable' club, a way would have been found to bend the rules, we will never know, and now it matters not, Palace are in the conference league, the manager is quite rightly and demonstrably unhappy, which will likely be reflected on the pitch, and the board are all at sea. The domino effect is that

No, he wanted a 2 million bonus paid in cash at the end of the season. Parish said it didn't work like that. It would be paid over time. Pulis walked and took us to court. Parish won the case.
interesting. Am I just making things up in my head now? He must have received at least 500k worth in Avec Club shop tracksuits & caps during his time with us, the massive grifter.

How have we come to this?

1. The Manager is palpably and vocally unhappy.
2. Why - because Steve Parish has let him down two years running
3. We knew that Eze and Guehi would be leaving a long time ago
4. But no steps were taken to find replacements
5. Glasner wanted new players in the early window - twice he has been ignored
6. We are blatantly ill-equipped to tackle the Conference League (let alone the PL)
6. Now we have 10 days left and replacements will be hard to find - and more expensive because all
clubs know we are desperate.
7. Many pundits said we had a great chance of winning the Conference
8. After last night that began to seem fanciful
9. Eze and his shoot-on-sight penchant (reminiscent of Zaha) was sorely missed.
10. Poor old Devenny looked lost and skilfully lacking
11. The whole team had really no idea on how to break down a defensive block
12. I fear for our next match against Forest, who have spent considerably.
13. Parish citing distractions of the UEFA saga and PSR worries cannot be excused
14. He has lost the 'bigger picture' by endangering the future of the best manager we have had in many years.
15. If because of this we fail to qualify for the CL proper or have a bad PL run there is only one person to blame.

All so stupid and completely unnecessary.

Good summary!

Eze has officially gone, and it’s hard not to feel worried about where things stand right now. As Palace fans, we’ve always had that one player who drives the team forward — Zaha, then Eze — and with Eze gone, we’ve lost our engine. It leaves a huge hole in the side, both creatively and in terms of leadership on the pitch.

We knew after getting into Europe that squad depth was going to be crucial. You can’t compete on multiple fronts without a solid, well-rounded squad — and right now, we’re running desperately thin. It’s a big concern.

Now that we’ve got the £60 million from Eze’s sale, it’s time to act. We’ve surely got the resources — now we need to show ambition and back Glasner properly. Otherwise, his recent comments could be a warning sign of what’s to come. We don’t want to lose him too — he’s shown he can take this team to the next level, but only if he’s supported.

I’d love to see more of Romain Esse this season — the talent is there — but it’s not fair to put the burden on young shoulders. We need experienced reinforcements before the window closes. These next couple of days are absolutely critical for the direction of the club.

In fairness to Pulis, he worked wonders with a poor side. Probably one of the premier league's biggest over achievements. That he seemed to want paying in used 20s presented a dilemma for Parish.

Glasner will have been fully aware of the clubs limitations regarding transfer budgets and potential for attracting big names. I have no doubt he expected to be "backed" but Palace don't have £100 million to spaff on players.

I fully expect him to fulfil his contract unless he gets no bodies over the line in terms of squad building.

about £90mil actually, seeing as we knew Ebs and MG are going😱

Yes, Pulis no doubt knew Parish and CPFC wouldn’t increase spending in the team and Pulis knew he’d walk because of that and so did Parish, hence the instalments of bonuses. Knowing that lack of investment was coming wouldn’t come into the court case.

Like I said above, Parish knew Pulis would walk very soon over budget arguments and Parish knew he’d beat Pulis in court. But yes, it was an incredible achievement. We pretty much had to score on every attack in the opposition third, because we rarely got that high up the pitch.

I see Leipzig got thrashed 6-0 by Bayern on friday. So Klopps new manager got off to a bad start.
They were looking at Glasner back in June.
Just saying.

Off topic but mention of Pulis made me think of the complete disappearance of the old school manager like him, Warnock, Bruce , Allardyce and Bassett.
No more ‘put it in the mixer’, ‘stick it to the far post, ‘ no big man/ little man combination in a 442.
All the new breed of managers have ‘emotional intelligence’ and respect that they are working on ‘projects’ where players are on ‘journeys.’

But there is still some hope.

Has anybody noticed the resurrection of the good old fashioned long throw?
Or watching Arsenal impeding keepers to score half of their goals from corners brings to mind Leeds in the 1970s with Jack Charlton using the same tactic.

I suppose everything must change to remain the same.
Brian Clough used to say that football was a simple game complicated by idiots.

I actually thought on Thursday we should have been more route one. They struggled to handle JPM physically and I reckon an old school Wimbledon approach might have worked. Sometimes the simplest way is the best one.

Whatever happens in the next few days in the transfer window Glasner will be gone.
Let’s face it he has worked miracles with a threadbare squad last season.
Glasner has shown his capabilities at 3 clubs now so deserves a shot at one of the Bigger teams & try & win the Champions League.
If Parish had not pissed around with UEFA & just listened to Glasner we may have kept him a tad longer.
Parish needs to decide if we are going to stagnate, which we do every year apart from last season or reach for the next level.
I believe If the next level is the goal Parish is not the man for the job & needs to retire gracefully & receive the rightful praise for keeping us in the Division & winning 2 trophies.
This transfer window has been an absolute joke!
Bring back Freedman.

Parish has done too well and now it's a problem

Let me expand.

When we were promoted he asked the fans to raise their expectations, to not just see us as one of those yo yo clubs flitting between the Championship and the Premier League.
Let's face it, not many of us thought we would have 13 consectutive years in the Premier League.
The quality of the squad has also improved dramatically.

So far so good.

We then win the first major trophy and enter into Europe for the first time in our history with a top manager who is also very ambitious.
And that success brings problems.
Our best player are coveted (and taken) by other clubs , we can't fund the purchase of their equivalents, we continue to play in a small stadium with limited opportunities to grow revenue.

I'm as disappointed by this window as anyone, but the realist in me recognises we are at our glass ceiling and I suspect Parish realises that too.
