From about 1992 . . .It seems that different rules exist anyway. Since when did it become ok to give the top 6 an unfair advantage in life?

Imagine we did the things Chelsea and Man City do. We'd get relegated. They get nothing or a paltry fine.It seems that different rules exist anyway. Since when did it become ok to give the top 6 an unfair advantage in life?
Now that is the big scandal. Man City aren’t where they are just because they spent. It’s because they (allegedly) systematically broke the rules over many years. They are (possibly) the Lance Armstrong of footballImagine we did the things Chelsea and Man City do. We'd get relegated. They get nothing or a paltry fine.

As others have stated, this is a non-starter, practically. I'd prefer a play-off system like the NBA so that the smaller clubs have a slight chance and top clubs would not be so sure of success by hoarding the best players. Don't hold out much hope for that eitherMy ten pence worth…
I would love to see a full spending cap. Across the board for every single club. We would then see how good some of these big time Charlie’s that buy there way to wins did. What chance have the likes of us got really if Newcastle, the richest club in world football can’t keep there players.
That’s another thing. Get rid of these 5 plus year contracts. They mean nothing now. Of if a player signs a long term contract and then wants to leave there are huge penalties to pay the club that holds the registration. Release clauses can f*** off too… where did they come from FFS.
Never happen though but nice idea to have a level playing field and an ability to build a team without it getting raped every time a player scores 3 or more goals or makes 6 passes in a game.

Because if you’ve been doing it since childhood with all its memories it’s a hard thing to give up. Despite sometimes sitting there watching dross and being bored shitless game after game, you always think the next one is going to be a classic or the next season is going to be our yearWhy am I paying 500 quid a season plus flights and hotels to watch greedy over priced footballers kick a ball around?

I only have a 90 mile round trip to Selhurst, but so many times through a season I think what the fook am I doing here?? But I think it’s a case of FOMO 🤣now, just incase the next game is a classic or the next season is our year as has been recently, but I’ve got to admit I’m getting less and less bothered about missing out these days, especially now I’ve seen us win some trophies
Spurs, its based on revenue rather than success on the pitch, but generally they go hand in hand. Spurs have spent £237m this window, so far.so who are the top 6?
Liverpool
Man City
Arsenal
Man UTD
Chelsea
and.......
The biggest difference between these situations are transfer fees. It's like pretty much every worker who gets offered a better job, it's just the wages that are different.
The only loyalty in football is amongst the fans.
Bosman only applies to players who's contracts have expired (free agents). Mateta is decidedly not a free agent. The whole mess is due to a player Mr Bosman going to the Court of human Rights who ruled that once a players contract was up the club could no longer hold their registration and sell him to another club. This effectively meant that the player himself would get the transfer (signing on) fee. This moved all the power to the players, leading to the ridiculous spiralling of wages, longer contracts, the demise of smaller clubs who relied on transfer fees etc. etc.

In other lines of work, if you refused to carry out your duties, you wouldn't get paid and you'd be out on your ear.I get it. I just am struggling to see what mechanic you would use for this given football is still governed by the same laws as other employment. How would it actually work?
I guess a club could put a penalty clause in the contract saying if you go on strike to force a move you need to pay the club a penalty. However, that is very unlikely to stand up to a legal challenge and there is zero chance of a player signing it.
I supposed you could change the law to let companies penalise workers genelally. However that would mean that if you didn’t turn up to work, not only could your company not pay you and sack you they could then fine you on top. What you then have isn’t just a contract, it is indentured labour and I can’t see that being a vote winner

Yes. It's greed, greed, greed. Why don't we just let Liverpool,Arsenal, Citeh, Chelsea, Utd, Spurs, take their pick of whichever of our players they would like?
The only alternative is to copy the business model of clubs beginning with 'B' in the Premiership. You have to take your hat off to these clubs, unpalatable as that will be for some. They identify raw talent, coach it and sell it on- in Brighton's case, generally to Chelsea for £70m.per player. And the managers of these teams just accept it and get on with it without throwing all the toys out of the pram Glasner -style.
A club can refuse to pay a player and sack them as well. They don’t though because at that point the player becomes a free agent. In other lines of work, if you refused to carry out your duties, you wouldn't get paid and you'd be out on your ear.
If you pay for a service and don't receive it, you expect to be remunerated. -- it's hard to draw an analogy to the working world because we don't have transfer fees, but all that monetary value doesn't evaporate into thin air.

Very nearly Tottenham too. Many good points on this thread…in the end, it seems that the only way we could propel Palace into being a more powerful entity in these markets is by increasing our revenue stream primarily by the size of the stadium. We could even move as Everton did. And West Ham although look what happened to them.
Some clubs just have rubbishness in their DNA. Even in the NFL with a system designed to create a level playing field some teams are crap year after year. To take an entirely random example look at the New York Jets (checks their owner and sees if he’s involved in any other sports clubs. Then takes a deep breath)Very nearly Tottenham too.

You can always rely on palace to try and spoil a good trip 🤣You are absolutely right. Im flying in tomorrow and I'm more excited to see my family and friends after a long summer than the actual game. 😅
