FA Cup 3rd Round Macclesfield

Its rare to be that bad then immediately turn it around. This is I think many people's concern. The players owe us a performance. Question is will we get one at Sunderland? I'm not so sure.
We were just so awful. Its not so much the result that worries me but the performance.
For the most part, it was a weakened side.
Bouncing back from a bad result to salvage your season can be as big as a motivator as upholding good form. If there was ever a manager who could do this, it would be Glasner. We're now at a point where "too many games" won't be an excuse as we're only in 1 cup now. And Sarr will probably be back next week

That was not a weakened side. Most of the players that started played against Villa. The kids only came on at half time. When we were already a goal down.
Weakened team or not, tell me 1 player, ONE that played to a decent standard.

Appalling. The worst part of all which upsets all Palace fans is the effort wasn't there. Can forgive most things but not that.

We might get a performance against Sunderland, maybe I'm wrong. I dont think I am

Yes, bed-wetting.

It is one game, we're still very well placed to have an excellent season. Keep the faith.

I don't understand. So we're supposed to shut up after that embarrassment and say nothing? I don't agree. Look at the number of replies to this thread and the level of anger and frustration. Bullshit.

It's not just one game. The Larnaca defeat was bad enough. But the FA Cup game was one of the worst performances we've ever seen. I know you're a fan as you have been on here for many years - so surely you know the gravity of this.

And it isn't just one game - it's a downward spiral of 7 games without a win. Before that we only scraped victories against Fulham and Burnley.

Like most of us on here I will keep the faith, but there needs to be a major turnaround if it ends up as an excellent season like you think it can be.

Having let the dust settle over the weekend, it is hard to fathom how the team individually and collectively managed to put in such a performance. But they did, and the rest is already history.

In my just-shy-of 50 years on this planet the only real comparison I can think of is the 1993 third round exit at Hartlepool. Even then the penalty they got (Andy Saville) was an utter dive and a disgraceful decision.

Last weekend there was no real complaint from me: we got beat fair and square. In fact, if you didn't know which team was which and you watched the second half especially, you would have thought we were the non-league team clinging on to 0-1 and trying not to implode. That is probably what hurts the most.

But does it hurt as much as losing the 1990 final? Nowhere near.

Does it hurt as much as Claridge's shinned play off winner for Leicester? Or two administrations with Wigan and other clubs asset stripping us of players like Victor Moses? Or the 2016 final? Or Wright leaving to go to Arsenal? Or Bright to Sheffield Wednesday? Or Johnson to Everton? Or Zaha to Fenerbahce? Or even Eze to Arsenal? For me, again, nowhere near.

It was a horrific day at the office on Saturday, but that is all it was and we move on.

Interesting that their skipper picked up on us not being up for it after Marc’s comment about their pitch. And he was proved dead right, quite simply we were not up for the fight. We were prime for an upset, players missing, starting with a couple of youngsters, poor run of form so low on confidence, artificial service, northern non league team who would most definitely be up for the fight, so good for them, I hope they get a great draw

take the artificial pitch out (which we have a full size version of at our training ground BTW) i give you Wolves v Shrewsbury.
Prime for an upset surely! How did that finish?? 6-1. What confidence will that give Wolves and their hat trick scorer.

none it was at home against a poor team I know this as there a 30 min drive away from Shrewsbury 60 from wolves

My saddest day was that semi final where Paul Nixon was killed RIP. Took me a while to want to go again. We boycotted the replay. Sad.

We're Crystal Palace. I think many have forgotten this is what we do. This is The Crystal Palace Rollercoaster and part and parcel of the experience. We probably turn Sunderland over this Saturday. We can't feasibly have a Top 6-esque run and roll that over into 2026, otherwise we'd be challenging Arsenal and Man City for the Premier League title, with a paper-thin squad. That spiral of 7 games is what we all knew deep down would happen with our thin squad and the ridiculous amount of games we've had to play. Now we only have the leauge and the UEFA Conference League to think about and the volume of games die down, while they ramp up for other teams in the league.

We, as defeated Eagles, spend the best part of Saturday afternoon into Friday, angrilly dissecting and bemoaning the result and when Saturday comes, we realise not all is lost and we look forward to the next game.

I'm completely with you, or at least I was, on Saturday. I've just quickly fast-forwarded to the 17th January, in my mind and don't want to dwell on that utter shower of shite. We have been royally embarrassed and the chairman, manager and players HAVE to want to rectify that. I fully trust Glasner to do everything in his power, this week, as manager to get us back firing again.

Completely agree, I am maybe Glasner's biggest fan but there comes a time where you have a right to say enough! That time came on Saturday. Its a new low for Palace, it's unacceptable and it needs to be addressed. Glasner's body language showed us he is very angry and disappointed but after that rubbish I dont think anyone expects an immediate turnaround, much as we'd all love to see one.

No Kamada, LaCroix, Henderson, Matera, Sarr, Munoz, Mateta, Lerma, Clyne or Nketiah. The Villa team was weakened as it is and we fought bravely to get a point, Saturday's team was far weaker, weaker even than the side we put out vs Larnaca.

I completely agree with you on the lack of effort, however. weak side or not, we should have comfortably won that game on paper.

Dreaming

A piece of Palace history of the wrong kind to be sure, but it's done now. All I can say is it should be a pivotal moment in the season, where board, manager, and players assess the true state of affairs, and arrive at a viable strategy to compete effectively for the rest of the season, given that we are still in Europe and have everything to play for in the Premiership. We shall see if the management and playing staff are made of the right stuff very soon.

Hendo doesn't play early round cup games, Mateta cannot train or play on 3G because of he knee (the squad have known this all season), Sarr has been away for weeks, Munoz has been injured for weeks, Clyne and N'ketiah are both injured so apart from Max what are you even talking about? This was the same team that played (and should have beaten) Villa.
You are making wild excuses about the amount of players missing. Nearly all these players have been missing while we have been giving top Premiership teams a real game.
Macclesfield deserved their victory but trying not to be disrespectful, they are crap. And they made us look way worse. People have every right to complain about a historical worst defeat in our history. 6 divisions and 117 places below us. Does that not sink in?
Obviously not because according to you we'll turn Sunderland over on Saturday

My point was that it was still very much a weakened team, overall.
But also, by your admission (Hendo, Mateta, LaCroix missing), not the same team 🙂

Maybe go outside and touch some grass, sir; no need to be so angry. When we turn over Sunderland, I'll be expecting a friendlier tone 🙂 🙂 🙂

Agree,
We find ourselves back at ground zero. Feels like the only way is up now. Though thats not true. If we fail to act. we can easily contnue dropping in the Prem and drop out of the Conference League before you can say 'play off'.
Not saying that will happen and I dont think it will but brushing this terrible result under the carpet is not an option.

Think you're replying to the wrong bloke if you want fluffy cuddles. Most on here I think know this.
I have no problem with you whatsoever. Its all about opinions and though I respect yours as much as anyone's that doesn't mean I dont think its nonsense.
1. You cant put a positive spin on our worst result in our history. (and shouldn't try in my opinion)
2. People have every right as lifelong Palace fans to be upset, downbeat or angry about it.

As previously mentioned I am a big fan of Glasner and I still am but he has to take some responsibility here AND he needs to sort it out.
Thinking we're just going to put it right against one of the meanest defenses in the division at home is just naive.
