FA Cup 3rd Round Macclesfield

I find it quite flattering that we're seen as a big scalp and have set a new bar for giant killing. Little old Palace eh. That was without doubt the worst performance for years, but only on a par with some of the dross served up in the Championship or when we were getting spanked in one of our early failed Premier League campaigns. This must be what it feels like to support one of the top clubs. Well done us!

The difference from the dross served on occasions from previous Palace teams in the lower divisions is that this time we had the likes of Guehi, Wharton, Richards, Mitchell, Hughes and Johnson featuring and still barely laid a glove on them.
It’s inexcusable really.
All our players looked decidedly uncomfortable and is if they would rather not be there.
It’s not as if we were ‘roughed up’ or unfortunate.
It was just an awful performance.
I know the previous intention was to give the players a few days off after the game and think this may well still be true as I believe Glasner has gone to Austria for a few days.
In the old days the manager would have had them in at 10am on Sunday working on set piece drills!

I don’t post much on here, I prefer to read than post, but on this occasion I feel I have to put pen to paper so to speak. Firstly I would like to congratulate Macclesfield on their historic win great result. Complete and utter total embarrassment with a piece of unwanted history for our club.
I believe everyone at this club should take responsibility for this result. When this season kick off we knew that there was going to be one hell of a lot matches to play, the squad is just not big enough to cope with the amount of matches being played and that is down to Steve Parish and the board. Yes you can say that we are governed by all these PPF rules, but players should have been bought in.

I read an article Oliver Glasner believe said in a pre match report before the FA Cup match that we go to Macclesfield as the face of this Competition to go there as champions it will be honour to represent and show pride in our defence of being the FA cup winners. HA !
I solely blame OG for this result he talks You don't need tactics in these kinds of games. You just have to show what you're capable of and show a little bit of pride, and you'll perform in a different way "But today we lacked everything."

You, Mr Glasner selected the team you put them players out on the pitch, how many of these younger players have any first team experience. Yes you stated that the team was going to be rotated, but maybe you should have made sure that the match result was sewn up before you started throwing on younger talent. As for the senior players that played, they need to stand up and be counted. Supporters pay hard earned money and work hard and show their support day in day out, they don’t expect crap like this performance.
As someone else posted, I don’t want OG leaving I think he is the best manager we have had at this club. But I think he should stay, knuckle down and commit to this club and build more history like our FA cup win.
Like you, since this forum was created I've preferred to read than post but Saturday tipped me over the cliff. As to what some have posted about a positive reaction at Sunderland, well one has the right to expect it if the players/trainer have any pride at all. Would be rather typical Palace wouldn't it? Not counting on it though and as I fall into the same pessimistic clan and age as "Willo" I won't be predicting either. I guess the current situation is still better than being on the terraces watching us lose at home to Shrewsbury back in the day; more than once if I'm not wrong. Silver linings?

He played 2 kids....for 45 mins.

(Not including Canvot who is part of the first team)

I wonder how the team will be received at our next home game. I wouldn't like to see them booed on to the pitch, but a silent lack of the usual applause might bring it home to them how much they've let us down and the humiliation we've had to endure...
I think if we don’t put a performance on against Sunderland we Palace fans should do the same as Strasbourg are doing at the moment. They are making there thoughts known about multi ownership by being quiet for the first 15 minutes. If we do this against Chelsea then hopefully the management and players will know the embarrassment and humiliation we suffered in losing to Macclesfield. Perhaps even a banner for the Ultras to hold up?

I've refrained from posting on here in the aftermath, embarrassed and grumpy but ultimately it is just a game. Macclesfield were brilliant and thoroughly deserved it whereas, as others have said, our players turned up as if it was a light training session.

Yes, there are some mitigating factors. Would we have lost with a fully fit Sarr, Munoz, Mateta or even Nketiah (who I think would have caused problems)? Probably not but a fully fit top tier side should be able to rotate and still win 999 times out of a 1000.

Let's just hope this for us is a hit of the reset button (like Newcastle away last season) and that we push on for a top half finish and go deep into the conference league.

Great "support" that.

Interesting that their skipper picked up on us not being up for it after Marc’s comment about their pitch. And he was proved dead right, quite simply we were not up for the fight. We were prime for an upset, players missing, starting with a couple of youngsters, poor run of form so low on confidence, artificial service, northern non league team who would most definitely be up for the fight, so good for them, I hope they get a great draw

I note that every other Premier League side that was up against lower league opposition in the cup games this weekend won - some of them rather comfortably, which puts our dreadful performance into sharp relief. Rather than calming down since yesterday's horror show I have found myself becoming more and more apoplectic at our feeble capitulation. GGrrrr.
Notts Forest ?

Yes, bed-wetting.

It is one game, we're still very well placed to have an excellent season. Keep the faith.
Its rare to be that bad then immediately turn it around. This is I think many people's concern. The players owe us a performance. Question is will we get one at Sunderland? I'm not so sure.
We were just so awful. Its not so much the result that worries me but the performance.

54 pages before I can bring myself to comment.
It has all been said but it was simply a very bad day at the office and the players will - hopefully anyway - be feeling it as much as we do.
This was the finale to the previous 4-5 weeks where we have been poor, whether it is due to shortage of players, fixture congestion, uncertainty over Glasner or whatever else.
My main concerns in no particular order are -
1. The players bought in the summer do not seem to be of the right quality - I always thought that Dougie leaving would be our greatest loss.
2. If those players were vetted by OG then that is a huge problem.
3. OG not signing a contract will be unsettling the players - if he isn't going to sign then wave bye bye now.
4. Guehi - is he staying or going - again it would be good to get that cleared up asap.
We won three on the bounce at the beginning of December so we must not get carried away!
A blip in the season was always going to happen and we will soon be back up to strength again - let's hope that things improve soon though.
Palace is my club and I will always support them - with the odd gripe of course - and I also trust Steve Parish to get matters resolved because he loves the club just as much as we do.
COME ON YOU PALACE!
