FA Cup 3rd Round Macclesfield

A lot of the rooms at the front of the hotel have been refurbished & finally the lift works properly so its not too bad - also very cost effective, if I go on booking.com the Buxton Palace is usually about £20 a night cheaper than alternatives, (Circa £60-80 Per night) the Ensana Crescent spa hotel is indeed very nice but its often more than double the price, with my boss also staying in the Buxton Palace (he comes down from Leeds every week) I need to have a good excuse to stay in other hotels.

I have tried others in Buxton, when they have offered good rates, the Vault in the high street is good, in terms of the quality of the rooms, bit noisy late at night being in the high street & directly above a pub -
Used to stay in the Palace when I worked in Congleton and Macc way back in 2005. It was run down then!

I have been told by a few people from the Buxton area that the hotel had changed hands a few times over the years & in fairness to the current owners its improved quite a lot in the 18 months or so that I have been using it (I'm there maybe a week a month) its quite often early in the morning you can see the various tradesman comparing notes with the hotel duty manager on what rooms or areas of the hotel are being worked on - its a huge building, the cost of general maintenance on its own must run into a tidy sum & maybe the refurb is being spread over a 5 /6 /year period -

Or get the fcuk kicked out of them by football league reject players who want to make a name for themselves 🤣

Having watched Macc recently (lost at home 2-0 to a very average Buxton team) i was surprised at how young many of the team were and there is little height or physicality in the side, other than the 2 centre backs.

They try and play it out from the back, but it reminded me of early Vieira days when the ball is passed around the back with no plan to get it forward, other than eventually the big boot.

I suspect it was a poor performance (the 1st game after the poor death of one of their players) but there is nothing to worry about from a football perspective. They are mid table for a reason.

Anyway from a weather watch perspective there was snow last night but it is already melting so hopefully no issues there from a pitch (which is 3G anyway) and a Palace travelling up perspective

I am a Macclesfield fan for 51 years who lives in Nottingham, (season ticket holder) so I can give you an honest view of the Silkmen, to reply to this yes the death of our no 20 Ethan McLeod did affect the players v Buxton where we did not turn up as Chester away (poorest performance of the season). We won 2-1 midweek when we could have been saving ourselves for Saturday against an in form team.

Our captain Dawson is combative and like to get his foot in so you have been warned but yes we like to play a brand of football that is pleasing on the eye and what the regulars demand but maybe not tomorrow. Our keeper is excellent and a few in the squad can play at a higher level, Duffy is accomplished and tricky, JJ, IBR are fast and Matheson RB is pretty classy, Edmondson great on the ball on loan from Blackburn, Menayese has been our player of the season so far. Dependable players Heathcote, Fensome and Mellor.

Yes we are mid table but we have a few games in hand over everyone around and above us and as we are still in the FA Cup and FA Trophy that is the reason alongside being new to this division we are adapting. We have not lost a cup tie this season!

We have a number of key injuries/omissions, Ethan McLeod RIP, Brandon Lee (best left back in NLN) Elliott looks like he will miss next 4 weeks (top goal scorer) Kay returns from suspension, Johnson & Whitehead knocks so hopefully we will be naming a new striker today and two new signings on Tuesday to bolster our team as we have played 30 games already this season (Palace 32 inc CS) and we are only part time (full time next season).

We all look forward to playing such a prestigious team like Crystal Palace and FA cup holders who have conducted themselves with utter class and compassion along with a generosity beyond the usual Premiership riff-raff and we hope wish you safe travels to Macclesfield and back home where ever that may be!

Come on you Silkmen!!!!!!!! This is our song but we do also have Joy Division Ian Curtis
