EZE

As I’ve said before I think people underestimate how many players are playing with minor injuries. Match fit does not mean completely injury free. At this stage in a season I suspect many players in the EPL are playing through a bit of discomfort. Sometimes those minor injuries flare up into something that stops players playing.

While not the same sport I knew somebody who was a professional rugby player and by midway through a season he said he almost always played with some minor injury or other.
Would you say Eze looks on par with his performances of the last couple of seasons? It has been acknowledged that he does look below par, could this be due to him carrying, and playing through, an injury? Is this wise in the long term?

He’s not at his best of that there is no doubt. Could be because of injury, could be because of confidence we just don’t know. Him playing through an injury could be ok or could be dubious. Again we don’t know. I do trust the experienced medical staff at the club to make this judgement.

Seems a reocurring issue. Players with minor injuries playing on - often with pain killers - because we have no adequate replacements - only later to have to miss many games because the original issue has got worse. AW a prime example and now maybe Eze too. Better surely to miss a week or two to get over a minor issues rather then play on and make the issue worse.

And this happens at every club.

Medical staff can only do so much. Ultimately if the player passes their tests and makes himself available to play then they have to trust that the player himself is being honest with them. Which is not always the case !

I think Eze's sporadic form is directly related to his injury issues. He has spent time out each season with one problem or another, and it takes him a few games to get back to peak form. This season he hasn't hit those heights at all.

It would explain a lot, it stood out like a sore thumb against Brentford, as someone else stated which we picked up on as well at the game, twice he actually stopped and slowed down attacks, a lack of 100% mobility and/or lack of confidence in what his body can do would explain it
I think that was the injury he picked up from sucking it too much.

The slowing down attacks debate. I don't buy into into 70 percent of it. In most cases the pass does not seem to be on and it's better to keep possession than risk the other side winning it and breaking back on us.

my tuppence worth.
Eze seems to often receive a brilliant 'assist' , while he is in front of goal. Often a poorly defended goal. Instead of controlling the ball, and then shooting.......Eze attempts to score a Worldy with just one touch. And then he keeps landing the ball into the Stands & advertising hoardings.

too much urgency. More haste, less speed.

One-touch-football only makes sense to me when a player is within 3 yards of an opposition player.

I expect and certainly hope this thought is wrong but Eze hasn’t just looked out of form recently he has looked unhappy.

Withdrawal for an injury just before the end of a transfer window, especially one not heard of before, often turns out to be a smokescreen rather than the whole truth.

Can see Eze leaving in the summer. Add that to Marc Guehi also likely moving on and we have big holes to fill. Then I read this morning that City have identified Munoz as Walker's replacement (with Barca and Chelsea both keen) and then we have the growing interest in JPM. He might be under contract but his head can still be turned if a big club wanted him.

Coming back to Eze I think it is make or break this summer on whether he remains a Palace player anyway. I think the club should either try and extend his contract or just accept that his release clause is likely to be met and prepare for his departure.
