EZE

This is not to generate yet another debate about whether Eze is a very gifted footballer .
Let’s just take that as a given.
Let’s also acknowledge that he scored the winner last week and had the assist for the equaliser yesterday.

Now to broaden the debate.

Is Eze the ideal candidate for a left sided front role in Glasner’s system?
Unquestionably he”s the best option from our current available players, but is the role getting the best out of his skill set?

We spend most of our time out of possession and, for me, Eze would flourish in a team that dominated possession and enabled him to get hold of the ball facing the opponent’s goal where he could demonstrate his skills.
In Glasner’s system Eze spends most of his time with his back to goal , either passing backwards, being tackled/fouled by the opposition or conceding possession.
He is only afforded one or two moments when he can demonstrate his class - and I acknowledge that this can make a difference in games.
However, if we were having an honest debate we’d have to say Eze hasn’t really had a particularly good game this season and is out of sorts.
Excuses have been made for him ..’he’s injured’…’he’s being played out of position’….’he’s missing Olise..’
All may have validity, but Glasner is not going to change the system and Olise isn’t coming back.

For the left sided front role under Glasner, I would like to see a real pacy option who doesn’t slow the game down, who drives forward and causes mayhem to the right side of the opposition defence.
I would like to see a similar threat on our left that we are currently demonstrating on our right.
The problem is if Glasner is going to commit to the club, if he does his normal 2 years then out, and we have to find another manager who doesn’t like Glasners system then 4-2-3-1 is perfect, I think that Esse can play either, but Chilwell, hopeless in a back four, so Glasner has to commit long term, the board have to think long term

At Wolfsburg there was progress with him at the helm. The club finished 4th and 7th in the Bundesliga.
At Eintracht Frankfurt the club competed in the Champions League and were victorious in the Europa League.
IF Glasner believes that our club is generally destined just to finish in mid-table at best, I suspect he might well decide that his interests and ambitions would be better served elsewhere.

Could be, hence the loan (maybe) of a LWB

You make it sound like we are the only team that sell players......

And selling club is a very generous label, we've only sold about 5 players in the last decade for a profit!
Agree we arent the only ones but didn't you have the hope at the end of last season that keeping olise and add a couple could have made us top six . Sadly the palace model will always be surrival in top flight which having followed from 1960s don't take for granted But would be great if for once we could have a go

Possibly. RB Leipzig were apparently sniffing around last month. Rebuffed.

Managers getting sacked is common place. Managers leaving or getting lured elsewhere, especially out of the EPL, is less common.

Managers were not always happy with us early in our current EPL life, but I think we have learned to take care of them. I would be surprised if Glasner's bread is buttered better anywhere where there might be a vacancy - save perhaps the Manchester teams or Spurs.

Perhaps that is the risk you identify?

I never had any specific clubs at the forefront of my thoughts.
I have been considering the possibility that Glasner might conclude that our ambitions do not match his and that it would be in his interests to move to 'Pastures new'.

Oh course, everyone wants us to kick on.

But progress isn't always linear. And for example I'm happy we swapped anderson for Lacroix, even if it took 10 games to find his feet.

Season on season our squad is slowly getting stronger.

Too many starting to get sucked into the hyperbole of the click bait. There are no signs that Glasner is clamouring to leave. He would be a lot less chipper on the sidelines when we score a goal if his thoughts were lying elsewhere. In my opinion of course.

I agree. This notion that the club are happy to survive and be mid table is nonsense. We are getting stronger and we do aspire to European football. It’s one of the reasons Glasner was brought in and he mentioned it in his first interview.

However, like most clubs in our position, we will always have the bigger clubs sniffing around after our best players and some of them will want to move on. We have to live with that and continue to recruit good players. We’ve been successful in doing that over the last 2 seasons or so and we now have a much improved squad playing attractive football and sitting comfortably in the league. The fact that four or five of them are attracting interest from bigger clubs is testament to the progress we’ve made so we might as well get used to that.

I do agree that tying Glasner down to a longer contract would help, but as I understand it his family are still in Austria or Germany and he may decide he needs to return there in a years time. Like our better players, he may see us as a stepping stone to a bigger job. Such is football. Should he leave I have confidence in Steve and Dougie to recruit a good replacement.

I agree Eze has looked off the pace for a long time now.

Only passes backwards, can't turn, won't run at other teams anymore, which was his big crowd pleaser from previous seasons.

I hope the explanation of him carrying an injury is correct and when he's recovered we see the Eze of old.

Weird that Glasner said he was leaving him out of the squad for ManU then put him on the bench.

Brilliant, that he came on and was instrumental in the build up to JP's first goal.

I wonder if he was injured, or if this was OG's response to the question from the BBC interviewer after the Brentford game, about the crowd groaning every time Eze passed the ball backwards.

The improvement in our recruitment is on par with the improvements in our training facilities, academy and injury treatment.

We are unrecognisable from the club in 2010.

Not at his best by a long way and yet in the Brentford game he created all our good chances. He has more assists for us this season than any other player and is in the top 10 in the EPL for chances created. Maybe we need other players to also step up creatively?

It'll make a big difference with him getting service from Wharton.

Looks ideal as Wharton starts moves and Eze tries to either assist or shoot - so we should create loads more. Wharton doesn't seem to have goalscoring traits but seems to have great vision about where he should play the ball. He finds space that players like Eze and Sarr can run into.

Where we finish or any club he manages is a reflection on his managerial ability. Currently we aren't really doing better with him in charge than previous managers. The style maybe more appealing, but we have only won 2 league games at home this season, not great.

Apparently. he has a painful foot. Glasner did intend to leave him out against United but Eze said he was fit enough for some minutes and in was agreed he'd sit out the Cup game instead to give time for the pain in his foot to ease.

a ton of shots. And 99% of them not on target. Mostly sky-ing the ball, hitting it miles wide, and on a good day Hitting the woodwork.

personal opinion, Eze needs to take an extra half second to compose himself and /or take an extra touch on the ball. Or he needs to hit more low shots, getting past the ankles of the keeper.
