European Union

Rebuilding relationships is more likely than rejoining.

It’s where we start.

Where we stop won’t be down to Starmer but he might be right. Depends on how long he lives.

I would be perfectly content with us having some kind of associate membership which removed trading barriers, harmonised standards and rebuilt cooperation.

You could call it something like the EEC.......Oh! Hang on.....

Brexit has made an impact on our economy as the BOE boss points out. However like most of the blob he fails to put it into context.

When we first joined the EEC our economy was mainly geared to the US and the Commonwealth. It took years for us to reshape it towards Europe. The same is happening now we need to re shape our economy to the rest of the faster growing economies in the world, not just Europe. It will take time but already our trade outside of the EU has been growing.

The EU economy has underperformed the rest of the world for quite some time so it doesn't make sense to link our economy with the slow growth of the EU.

Having a better trading relationship with the EU is fine just as long as we can continue to trade with the rest of the world.

Provided the EU survives.

Previous Attempts to unify Europe under one flag or one leadership.....Or even a sub-part thereof.

- The Roman Empire
- Charlemagne
- The Catholic Church ( pre Reformation )

- The Ottoman empire

- The Hapsburg Spanish Empire

- The Austro-Hungarians
- The Hanseatic League

- Napoleon
- Hitler
- Josef Stalin & Nato

- The EU

...........Attempts 'to unify Europe' are looking like our attempts to get a large stadium. Many attempts, many failures.

We always could when a member!

Henry VIII rejecting the pope as head of Europe and his boss was our first Brexit. 😀

Success generally follows a succession of failures.

Persistence and a refusal to accept defeat is the hallmark of the winner.

Optimism to the max. A tricky one for which to make a convincing case in a season when Pollyanna has already sent back her season ticket.
We've got a couple of years before the end of mankind probably. I've always thought Palace would win something within my lifetime (not the Zenith Data Systems Cup or Division 2 or playoffs) but that is becoming more finite by the season.

Success generally follows a succession of failures.

while your statement may be partially correct, a) most repeat failures are followed by just another failure...Millwall. b) many successes keep repeating themselves....like Messi. He probably never had a succession of failures.

A longterm successful United-Europe is like a low-budget team winning the Champions League. Without historic precedent and highly improbable.

The decision of the EU to open its borders to the Third World, and particularly to a certain variety of male immigrant, will prove fatal to the whole EU project. Confidence has been lost. And nobody wants to fight for a flawed flag.

Not considered Henry VIII and Boris Johnson as soul mates before!

Both though perused extreme political strategies in Europe to further entirely personal ambitions.
Both very fond of changing their women regularly, putting it about a bit, and loved their food and drink.....
obviously more in common than anyone would have thought when you start looking into it......

both sired a multitude of kids from many different women.
Meanwhile preaching to all the rest of us about virtues like temperance, conservative family values and sensibility. Defenders of the hypocrisy.
