Crystal Palace vs Newcastle match thread

Let's put it like this.

If we don't get another point, which is quite possible with our fixtures, and we maintain a superior goal difference. Ham would have to win 3 and draw 2 out of 6. Leeds 3 wins and draw 1 out of 7. Forest 3 wins and 1 draw out of 6. Spurs would have to win 4 and draw 1 out of 6. Spurs seems the most unlikely, but under a new manager, who knows.

It ain't over until it's mathematically over.
I do see what you are saying and agree until mathematically certain let's not get complacent. I am sure the lads will not.

The scenarios you outline above would ALL need to happen, rather than just one or two bolters. I do not see any of them really making a push for it although even if one or two do then we're still fine on 42 points with seven games to play.

I see us very much looking up the table rather than down. We are playing with a freedom which suits the team and getting some momentum.

The pessimists can get 500-1 for Palace going down if they are worried!

Well the answer is that we could finish 18th, but we probably won't.
No, because the teams below us have to play eachother, so the maximum points 17th can get is 41, trust me I spent 10 mins doing worst case scenarios on the Premier League Predictor

Edit: I redid the predictor and we'd be relegated by 1 point if Spurs, Leeds, Forest and West Ham won every game until the end of the season, however Leeds do play Spurs and West Ham so I put them as draws.

Leeds, Newcastle and Wolves must have games in hand that I couldn't find on the predictor

Let’s face it, we were hopeless until he brought the so called big guns on, at least when JP comes on as a sub he looks a bit more lively, energetic and interested
Just shows, despite spending £85 million in January, we can’t be making too many changes because we still haven’t got the strength in depth, but I can’t blame Glasner for making them after playing Thursday night
You do realise we had 3 good chances before they scored so we wasn't that hopeless overall we had the better chances

Some on here picked on cavot , I said at the time he is young alot to learn but showing some great promise , the more he plays the better he will get , yes still make odd mistakes but its that position you really don't come good until your 25 , so give the other new guys chance they will come good , great touch by Mateta to give MOM to Mitchell who for me was MOM ,

In order for us to finish 18th we would have to lose every league game remaining and at best our GD not change (stay -1). Then Spurs would have to win every remaining game (6 and they are an ugly final run) with a goal differential of at least +11. It's mathematically possible I guess but not really likely. Even if we fall off Spurs look to have given up.
If we were to lose every other game, the best our GD could be is -8. Newcastle were probably the easiest game of the run-in, unless Arsenal have already lost their chance of the title by the final game of the season

For fun, I just put in scores that could happen, with us losing every game, and we finished 18th. That's all I can tell you.

To put it in perspective, Spurs, Forest and Spam have a combined 15 points for the last 18 games they have been involved in. Spurs have three points from their last ten games. Forest have won only two games out of the last ten. Regardless, yesterday's win will put my mind at ease, even though I don't think Spurs will reach 39 points.

An interesting technical exercise - thanks

And if it goes the other way? If we win the remaining seven games we can get to 63 points so what's the highest we could finish?

Well they was right in front of me up our end, so I think I was still awake, What about the other 43 minutes? If you think that was a good first half performance you’re easily pleased, it was two poor teams, it was crying out for the substitutions, which when they came obviously improved us

Energy saving everyone needs to do there bit👍🏻

This was the only downer for me today. It brought back those fears that many had at the time, why did we spend so much on just two fairly average players. It could have been put to so much better use.

JSL I do think will end up doing ok for us (as well he should for 50m) but with every minute that Johnson plays he just looks utterly anonymous. It's not that he does anything terribly bad but that's mainly because he is rarely anywhere near the ball!

Pino thank goodness though is working his way back into some form and at least always tries to make things happen.
Desperation I suppose, a last ditch effort to change Glasners mind about leaving?

Actually I’m not exactly pino’s biggest fan, but at least he’s involved in games, even if he loses the ball easily or misplaces a pass, as you say at least he’s trying to make something happen, Johnson just gives us nothing and is a waste of space at the moment

We have averaged 1.35 points per game so far this season. We are currently on the up re our form.
So 1.35 x 7 games = 9 points.
Discount it by say 20% = say 7 points, to allow for some tougher than average opposition (Man City and Arsenal).
I would guess OG is targeting north of 50 points. Totally realistic.
