Crystal Palace vs Man Utd match thread

For me personally, the PL is the only priority. It is the hardest competition to complete in and has the greatest possible rewards. I look at the league and we are very much in touching distance for a high finish as things stand.
After last season taking domestic cup competitions seriously should be unquestionable. We may finish a place or two higher in the Premier by sacrificing the cups but if we want to improve and attract better players raising our profile is vital. As Pino said in his introduction video to the other players "lets win more trophies".
Apart from which if in March we had been offered a 10th place finish instead of an FA cup win who would have taken it?

Last two have been really annoying haven't they. We were probably the slightly better team overall but not taking our chances and sloppy goals conceded have cost us.
It looks like our decision making is being affected by fatigue.

It could be OG's way of saying to Parish "We need to sign in January, look how it's gone despite all best efforts".
Do we even have any targets for January ?asking for a friend .Or will it be usual deadline day loans .
January is a notorious window for overpaying ,Parish just loves that .

I thought you knew everything.

How about you go do your home work.

Roy was very clear about DF and his team did all that & this has been backed up by Sam & PV mentioned it.

This is how modern day football works managers are not really managers they are first team coach.

Go listen to SP he speaks about it and had mentioned about how the summer transfer windows worked he was dealing with a lot of it (Still spoke to DF about some of the targets that had been laid out when DF was still at the club)
No, this is what actually happens, either the manager goes to the DOF, and recommends players and vice versa, and a decision is made between all parties if the player is available, affordable, etc. if he is we try and buy them, if not, we look for someone else on the same process, no player is forced on Glasner, or Roy or any manager, managers get annoyed if the target is too expensive or not available, understand Grumpy.

Really disappointing. Well done to Man U for winning the match, but in my opinion this was the worst opposition individually and collectively I've seen this season.

3 points dropped.

Definitely missing Eze, and from the limited game time I've seen, the nearest player we have like him is Esse.

This was also the perfect game to rotate the squad... more fresh players need to start during European runs - we lacked a bit of mental sharpness and this is why.

This has probably been commented on but I haven't read the thread. Just seen Glasner talking to TNT saying quite bluntly that we saved rather than spent in the summer, the players haven't had the support they deserve and we've missed the opportunity to have an even better season.

Unfortunately I get the opinion that ultimately it's this that will lead him to leave the club. He was very clear that we needed to invest and early and, honestly, we didn't really do either.

It's difficult because we don't want the club to be run irresponsibly but when you see where we are in the league versus the spend table each season, it does make you wonder where we could be if we just went for it one year.
I will catch up with this interview, but none of that will come as a surprise given Glasner's utterances in recent months.

He has greater ambitions than we are probably able to satisfy.
He has overachieved, even allowing for the fact that we have some brilliant players in the squad.
We can't afford duplicate players for the likes of Wharton, Munoz, Guehi, Mateta and Sarr to enable us to push on.
We're not Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool , Chelsea etc.
We can compete with them on the day when our best players are fit and firing, but cannot compete with them over the course of a season.
We can still aim high, but the last couple of games have been a harsh dose of reality.
It's evident that even the very reliable players have dropped off in their level of performance.

If ,and after today feels like a big if ,we can win next two games that will take a big load off our backs .
Weirdly the next two games feel like 6 pointers .
Sadly, I feel our next few games if Glasner doesn’t freshen the team and that means dropping Matteta to the bench on Wednesday will be defeats. Bring him back fresher at the weekend along with 3 or 4 other players. He won’t do this I’m afraid and we will lose against Burnley and Fulham :-(

I have just seen the penalty awarded. I missed it the first time. How did we get that 🤭🤭🤭 Mateta goes down like he was shot.

If brains were gunpowder, i don't think you would have enough to blow your hat off. 😎

ultimately that's true, but he's not unrealistic about buying new players like some managers are, he's merely restating that we needed to buy earler and better in the summer, and he made that point well before the sunmer and Parish did not respond adequately. After we lost at Arsenal he made the point that after the summer window they were minus hundreds of millions while we were up 20 million. We could have broken even and had the likes of de Boey and Willock in the squad. He's never used fatigue as an excuse up till now - his ambitions are not unrealistic or financially reckless, merely the bare minimum to perform consistently to achieve what is possible.

I thought Nketiah’s ‘effort’ just before half time sums up everything that’s wrong with him. He basically turns to jelly when an ‘under the spot-light’ opportunity presents itself where his real footballing skill, composure and guts are tested. Harsh as it may sound, it looked to me he intentionally went slow to let himself get caught rather than test himself in full glare. He’s little more than a hit and hope merchant where he can hide behind Lady Luck. I also rarely ever see him place a shot which is why he finds the keeper so much.

Mateta share’s similar traits to Nketiah but not nearly as bad although again the more time he has the more his legs turn to jelly.

When Sarr’s not playing we’re worryingly impotent up front.

Oh..to have someone like Ian Wright or Glenn Murray again.

Moan over and apologies it’s a little personal.

And Seaweed leapfrog us... can today get any worse 😳

We really need some serious money spent in January as we haven't got the depth, but I reckon SP's Disneyland new stand will suck financial resources away from recruitment for the long term

I have never seen any study to support this. We bought Mateta, Wharton and Munoz for good prices in the winter, although we have also had misses like Ahamada and, probably, Esse.

There is still a great deal of uncertainty about where we stand in by the end of January although , unless we are in the final, we will be out of the League Cup and probably facing Conference League playoffs in February. We will have played our first tie in the FA Cup. Guehi may have signed a pre-contract and Parish be pretty certain Glasner is leaving

Whatever, Hobbs needs to hit the ground running. He left Wolves at the beginning of June so probably can be excused from any responsibility for their current situation
