Crystal Palace vs. Ipswich match thread

Message to Ultras…can you come up with a good song for Sarr. That one that everyone tried singing is crap. Most of your songs are great. Why not one like them for Sarr?
That new one for Franca is brilliant.
How about Sarrman running up the wing?
Come on Ultras he deserves a good catchy song.

Well, that turned out the disspiriting display which a brief scan of the predictions thread shows many of us were fearing. Strangely less than the sum of its parts becausea number of players turned in excellent performances. I distracted myself by wondering how disappointed (or not) on the strength of that game I was we hadn't signed the several of their players we have in the past ben interested in. When at last their goal came it was very neat assist which answered the questions forming in my mind about subbing Kamada for Nketiah. At least we're in the sort of form where we end up secuirng the three points rather than ruing their loss - but one goal for four amd a hlaf 'expected goals' sums ut up overall.

They've got three weeks off and they need it based on that performance - so many misplaced passes, esp Lerma and Wharton!!! I like Nketiah but he showed no conviction or confidence when Wharton put him through early on. Richards was prob our best player, but our players on the ball too often couldn't find a man, nobody was free, lofted balls into nowhere to make 50-50 headers - Ipswich were well set up but toothless, they blocked the gaps to make it hard for us to play out of defence, and there was too much space between our striker and midfield so we got outnumbered if we tried to go long. Rudderless performance, shows how much we miss JP and Hughsey. And £50 in the main stand right behind a f*cking pillar! Joke! Still 3 points - onwards and upwards.

We dont play at our best against lower teams but I enjoyed the match, first half was some good end to end stuff and the second half we had to dig in, a moment of magic from Sarr and we go home with the points.

Ah we have had so many good performances lately we were bound to have a crap one.

Good news is in seasons gone by we draw that 1-1 or loose it. We played crap but pulled out a win. Isint that what good teams do.

We looked tired and ready for a break. Thankfully we played Ipswich and not another solid premier league team who would have punished us today.

I was worried at times a few of our players would get a second yellow and miss the QF against fulham.

and it was a dive. Still gives us a better chance of overtaking Fulham. We weren't going to catch Brighton and they must fancy their chances of getting to the Champions League now
Surprisingly, the gap between us (11th) and 2nd place is now smaller than the gap between 2nd and 1st. Brighton are only 7 points clear of us and if we beat them on the 5th April that becomes 4.

Liverpool are literally strolling to a league championship but everything else is up for grabs.

Delap would be a good signing for us if Ipswich go down. Despite wanting Nketiah to do well I just don’t think he suits our style of play and we look pretty weak up front.
Having seen him play yesterday he went down in my estimation. Good player but his shooting and end product, at least during yesterday’s game, was not of the level I thought he was at.

The win is all the matters, although the game was far from inspiring, it was certainly not our best day at the office, the clean sheet was great, our poor passing, especially in midfield and lack of ruthlessness in the final third is still a worry. Ipswich, like us perform better away from home so it was always going to tough with them fighting for their EPL status. The focus now in the press seems to br on players thagt we are may be going to lose over the summer (Guehi, Eze, Wharton and Mateta), which if correct will be a big challenge for DOF Dougie who is hopefully already planning for the worst case outcome, so that we can have a settled team pre season for a change.
