Crystal Palace vs. Fulham match thread

WTF? Wharton sent in many passes through the lines, some leading to attacks into the back line. The problem was that several were to Pino. Get it?
He's playing as per instruction. It would seem Oliver Glasner doesn't walk on water after all. He is asking the players to play the system but the few players that make the system tick are missing. A better time to judge will be when they return, and also if Johnson is signed, how he fits into they overall scheme of things. Wharton would like a speedy runner to set free I think.

Thought it should have been Mateta substituted for Uche and of course much earlier. Sadly Glasner wants to keep Mateta on for reasons unknown to me. Substitutions were so late and we were fortunate to get away with a draw. Credit to Clyne who isn’t a wingback but made the goal for us. Let’s hope players are back from injuries soon and new players come in quickly as we are so flat at the moment and a next win is a long way away :-(

I do think Mateta misses the interplay between himself and both Sarr and Eze and that can be seen in his own lacklustre performances. Pino looked initially like he might fill the boots of Eze however he has been disappointing the last 5 or so (maybe more) games. The signing of Johnson and the return of Sarr from Afcon and Munoz from injury will tell us whether Mateta’s poor form is a short term blip or a major downhill slide.

Pino will need “resting” when Johnson signs and Sarr returns.

The way I see it, any team outside the big 4 are going to miss: Richards, Munoz, Sarr and dare I say it… Kamada. The first three mentioned all play on the right and without them we have lost so much both in defence and attack. That can’t be understated, especially the dynamic movement of Munoz who for me is the engine of the team and plays in 2 places at the same time.

Add to this that Pino is not up to speed. I maintain that there is a player there. I watched him closely today and he has great movement and first touches into dangerous areas but others are not on his wave length. When it clicks we will all think he was a bargain.

We just need to get through these next couple of games any way we can. The likely hood is we will have Johnson in and settled by the time Munoz and Sarr are back. We haven’t suddenly become a bad team. We have just had the busiest period in our history along with AFCON and injuries. COYP
I applaud your optimism, but Pino is a poor Max Meyer. The latter was 'Hodgsoned' but would run rings round Pino

It's hard to believe we were a top 4 side not so long ago. On current form we look more like a bottom 4 side. We will improve but lets hope we are not pinning all our hopes on Johnson as with our luck he will get a season long injury after a couple of games. 2025 seems so long ago.

I agree.

Not too long ago, I would’ve held high confidence for us attacking and beating Fulham at home.

Suddenly, I’m just grateful that we scored a goal and gained a point.

I still think we need to look at the bigger picture. We knew we had no squad even in August. Team starts well and we all believe the hype. Fact is in the Prem it's too strong, with too many games in December and no squad, all the injuries, I expected this.
Having said that, it was so obvious today around the 70 minute mark we needed fresh legs. He should have brought off Pino then, and not doing so cost us any chance of winning today. I simply put this down to Oli believing we had no good enough replacement to put on.
Next two are tough as well- got to still believe (and hope we get in reinforcements quickly!)

Well twice he thought ahead and JPM and Mitchell didn’t read the game. Maybe he is better than he’s given credit for. A bit like DK when he first started and now others know how he operates.
Yeah, I get why people are critical and his form hasn’t been good but I still rate him as a player generally.

I think the system our success has been built upon has broken down and the 10s is the most obvious position to see this, with Sarr gone and Pino and Devenny (in that position) both new to the system. JP’s form and the loss of our wingback is directly connected too.
