Crystal Palace vs Brentford match thread

My understanding is that the encroachment takes place before the penalty is taken so it then becomes irrelevant what happens afterwards. It’s like a pre-snap penalty in NFL.

Fair enough- I thought the point of encroachment was if it makes a material impact on the resulting play it comes into force. Whilst Guehi did clear the ball he was challenging Mbuemo who himself was offside so it’s just a bit rubbish

I shall make a trip to the FA’s website for more clarity *shudder*

What I haven’t seen is a penalty chalked off for an encroachment by an attacking player. Granted, Guehi was about 2 foot inside the circle however one of the Brentford players was also just inside the encroachment area. So, do they get it in their favour because Guehi encroached by more? It should be like conversions in rugby and you can start moving as soon as the penalty taker starts moving. It might stop some of those ridiculous stutter step penalties as well.
That is a very good idea.

As I say it’s just my understanding. I’m not a qualified ref or anything so might well be missing a nuance in the rules.

We were beaten by the weather as much as by Brentford today. I know some might say “ it’s the same for both sides” but it really effected our style of play and composure. Eze was trying to take a corner and it nearly blew into touch before he struck it!

It was like playing on the Purley Way in 50 mph. I scored from the halfway line with a 40 mph behind me. There was no disputing their second it was a brilliant header, by then the game had gone and I cashed out!

One other thing , Brentford really have got a sign over us with decisions going their way at the moment, but good luck to them and you can’t help but like the manager you can see another club poaching him!

If you watch it again Brentford players was in there as well at the top.

This ref was iffy all game and If he had not given retake for what he did it would be the goalkeeper coming off his line.

Notice how all the broadcast shots for second pen didnt show them like the first i wonder if brentford players again did same as first one buts its fine they scored.

It's poor from Guehi anyway should know better. (showing again he has been so over hyped)

But at the end of the day Palace didn't deserve anything they was so poor it's a real issue and reminds me of the days under another manager at Home we was awful away we looked different team.

We got to stop playing this tippy tappy football at the back.

Badly need to try other systems getting sick of same system every week and not even going to get into the subs why he leaves it so late.

Two games against this team and both times we have handed them the game.

Arsenal must be laughing at use 30m for a striker who cant assist or score goals (system is all wrong for him which doesn't help poor recruitment)
I actually didn’t think the ref was that bad to be honest. I don’t think he got any major decisions wrong. The pen was clear cut. If anything Lacroix was slightly fortunate to not pick up a second yellow for it. It’s not really on the ref if VAR says there’s been encroachment and it should be retaken. Only decision against us that looked clearly wrong was Mateta being pinged for a non existent blow to their defender.

As you say we were architects of our own downfall today

Eze should have tried that !!

Woeful, soaked for no reason, the only light was Spurs losing.
Henderson made a couple of saves but other than that all players were below par.
Esse needs to replace Eze so the left hand side can function as the right.

How could Mbuemo be offside from his own kick?

I might be wrong but didn’t all our good moments come down the left toady? The Mateta chance first half. The free kick that hit the post won on the left. The goal was a cross from the left

Just to add to our misery, if that was a penalty, we may as well start giving penalties for any contact. Their man dived. Dirty cheat.
I can’t agree for certain but from the angles I saw it certainly looked like he withdrew the leg before contact although there weren’t massive complaints so maybe he clipped him. I definitely agree that far more was made of it than needed to be.

I hate diving and attempts to cheat in the modern game.

You have answered you own post.

If you take a penalty and hit the woodwork you are not allowed to be the next player to touch the ball. If the keeper gets a hand on it first that is different however in this case it came straight back from the woodwork.

We all know that Nketiah is 30 mio pound thrown out of the window.

But Eze's performance today may cost us more.

How would anyone pay anything for a player, who can't shoot, can't pass (more than a couple of yards), struggles dribbling, constantly holds ud the ball, getting nothing in return, and preferable passes sidewards or backwards - extremely boring and extremely ineffective. Doubt very much he could make it into the current QPR team.

Come on. He’s not playing anywhere near his best but this is unfair. He almost scored from a free kick he won by dribbling through their defence. The annoying thing is he can do all of the things you describe he just isn’t doing them enough. As per other parts of this thread though nor is anyone else.

I don't know if it's offside but he's not allowed to play the ball until another player has touched it. Therefore it would've been an indirect free kick to us.
Naturally I'm not blaming Guehi as he was doing what any player would have done but the most frustrating thing about this situation is that if Guehi hadn't of got to the ball and Mbuemo had put it into the empty net (which he undoubtedly would have) then the goal would of been disallowed and an indirect free kick given to us as it hadn't touched any other player.
