I've still got the hump about O'Brien. It's obvious that was Textor but I guess we'll never know the whole story.

I was working with two Lyon fans last year, they couldn't understand why we sold him to them with comments like "saved our season" and "best player on the pitch".

Probably play this game in the same circumstances we would win 7/10 of them. So many small things did not go our way. I think there were at least 3 occasion's in the first half where Anthony Taylor could have booked an Everton player for "interfering" with a Palace breakaway as the fouls were very marginal ones. I could see his point at the time but at the back of my mind i was thinking 9 times out of 10 the player gets booked in similar circumstances no matter how well they disguise it but we just did not get the rub of the green. Same with Sarr's shot that was probably to well struck it came back out off the bar and chuck in the disallowed goal and it was not our day.
I should never have played my fantasy assistant manager chip on Glasner this weekend as this probably jinxed any luck we might have got.

We had the chances to win. For much of the game were the better side ("Vastly superior" ysterday's ST).

OG's tactics create chances that's all he can do - taking those chances is down to the players.

Oh for a striker who could be the Bright to Mateta's Wright. We'd be a real force.

I think it is a confidence thing which we have overcome away from home. I was in Main Stand B and the corner definitely went out although similar outswingers are never pulled up. There were at least two strategic fouls by Everton which normally would have resulted in a yellow card. The unusual refereeing was probably worth two goals to Everton.
All are having a go at Tyrick but I thought he was ok other than the ridiculous throw which was partly down to Lerma. I am really surprised at how poor Ben Chilwell was in defending the far post for the second goal, Tyrick sorted that out long ago.
Once Ebs gets his confidence in the final third back we will be a much better team.
Everton really play anti-football and their fans are vile…..it is so sad that they weren’t relegated in the last two years. There were two Evertonians in B, they sat on their hands when they scored but seemed to take pleasure from hurling obscenities at two of their own subs. I suppose that is the only pleasure they get from their football.

Quite a few people are making excuses for this defeat in the same way that they were excusing other home defeats this season e.g 'we were unlucky', 'on another day we'd have won', 'it was the ref's/'VAR's fault,' 'we missed easy chances.'

The reality is we've won just two home games all season and have had to rely on late equalisers against Leicester and Newcastle to avoid defeats in those games.

It's defies logic to delude ourselves that our home form is anything other than woeful.
There is a clear pattern in many of these home games where we fail to win.
We are always in games and rarely outplayed.
But we're always vulnerable to the counter attack as two of our 3 centre backs are on occasions pulled wide to cover our attacking wing backs and our two central midfielders are bypassed.
Big gaps are created for the opposition to exploit.
Personally I would like to try a back 4 at home with a holding midfielder to see off the threat of the counter.
That would still leave us with 5 players to create further forward plus the occasional overlap from our full backs.
One of our 3 centre backs often seems redundant in home games .

I don't think we'll make the change but, in my view, at least try to break the pattern of home results by trying something different.

Yep. Our home form is terrible and we have to stop making excuses. The two games we won were by one goal and we were very unconvincing against Southampton. Clearly OG has not worked it out at home.

It's interesting that despite OG using a different tactical set-up to both PV and RH the board position is more or less the same. Certainly all resources should be put into winning at home. As an aside, I am not convinced by the two man midfield, that's area where you want control, and we've seen where the opposition can sit back and soak it up, break, usually bypassing our two midfielders.
Given that the three managers mentioned have similar results with different methods, I would also put our home form down to poor finishing.

Given that it is generally accepted that most visiting teams play deep to defend and break, and it seems this doesn't favour our current formation- which is generally more successful playing away - as statistics prove - then maybe - we should try a different formation when playing at home - be that 4-4-2 or whatever. Surely worth a try ? A much wiser man than me once said -paraphrasing - 'doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is madness.'

Completely agree although i can't see OG changing.

For me 4231 would be perfect -with Eze (or dare i say it Kamada) as a 10.

As CB is probably our strongest position it seems a luxury playing 3 at home and i's say Lacroix and MG would be an impressive pairing (Guehi is a regular for England in a back 4 FFS).

I also think it might help Eze. As a bit if a luxury player i noticed for the 2nd goal he was nowhere near their RB, Young, who set up their 2nd goal. Having someone else on the left who was a more willing runner might help out the LB too, whoever that might be.

Playing 4 at the back won't massive change the games of Munoz and Mitchell/Chilwell - just look at Liverpool always play a flat back 4 but their full backs are often their most attacking players

Yes our finishing is appalling. So little composure from so many players. Also agree on the two man midfield. It works ok away when the team is defending and playing on the break. At home though teams sit back and do that to us. We often seem to get overloaded.

we may have the odd subdued first half but generally under Glasner you could never use the phrase 'we never turned up' to describe our performances, nobody is allowed to hide and the approach is very positive

Much like Viera in his first season then? All of it is true but we will again end up on about 45 points same as every other season. I’m not saying OG is bad or anything like that, just that where it matters, in points, we are about where we’ve been for the last decade. Now that is ok and probably where we are going to be given our resources. However, it does show we haven’t really progressed that much

Fully agree. 3rd round cup exits were a given. We have beaten Norwich, QPR, Stickport and Donny with relative ease. All banana skins of previous years.

Is the manager outperforming the players or are the players outperforming the manager?

My sense is a very happy and well run club all around with the opportunity to continue to improve year in year.

I am still shaking my head at that result.
Much has been posted of course but more worrying for me is that our Manager does nothing to change games and the way that we play, during the game.
He doesn't get his messages across to the players - albeit I think that he is so wedded to his system that the only changes will be subs.
That to my mind is not good.
After we equalised we pushed hard for ten minutes or so and then slowly sat back.
It is up to him to sort that out.
Pickford was playing as an 11th outfield player and travelling way outside his area to do so.
We got pushed further back, made tons of silly errors and eventually conceded.
Really poor management and he needs to sort it out.
Everton are not a nice club and someone else said they are anti-gfootball.
They won though and Moyes has a plan - I am sorry but Glasner does not - not a plan B anyway and where have we heard that before!

Games are mainly won on fine margins in the PL, so when your left-back bizarrely provides the opposition with an assist and one of your forwards hits the bar from six-yards you sometimes have to say it was just unfortunate. I genuinely don't know what more people expect from this squad? Of course OG isn't beyond criticism but it does sometimes feel like some people are desperate for him to slip up and prove they were right for being critical earlier in the season. After watching Everton all I could think was thank f*ck we didn't end up with Moyes. He takes all the joy out of football and reduces it to being just about points.

All true but also it is fair for people to call out our very poor home form and be a bit displeased with 2 home wins all season

What bugs me about Saturday the most is that no one in the ground would have been aware that the ball might have gone out of play for our disallowed goal. The ref, the players, the crowd would not have known.
I don't think anyone could be sure when the ball was so high above the line, so why put the flag up?

Do away with calling balls out in the air from anywhere, there are enough stoppages in the game already . If the ball lands or is headed inside the confines of the pitch the game should carry on.
