Cosying up to Trump, even for 4 years, does Zuckerberg no credit.

Thank goodness that we, along with other decent countries, are at last taking steps to regulate an industry that has threatened to get out of hand for a while.

If they refuse to moderate out lies and disinformation on the basis that spreading them is allowed because of free speech, then we will have to do it for them.
 
I hardly ever use FB these days. A few groups when I want specific information and Messenger for family news.

Nor do I use X because all the interesting people I followed have closed their accounts since Musk allowed it to become the cess pit it is now. They have migrated elsewhere, particularly to Bluesky.

My FB use will now practically cease until I see what user moderation actually looks like. If it ends up like X, then it’s gone.

I am pretty sure Elon Musk would have a bigger backbone and tell us if he is being pressured and not wait untill after the presidency has finished.

Anyways the point is that true information was censored especially ones about Covid vaccine side effects which is "conspiracy theorists" have said for years. Think I'm all out of them now they have all come true.

It’s really reached the point where truth is lies and lies truth in the USA.

Thank goodness we are better than that. Or at least most of us are. A Covid vaccine conspiracy theorist will always be one. Musk or not.

They didn’t.

They obviously pointed out disinformation and requested it be addressed. When you are trying to cope with a deadly virus the last thing any country needs is for nut jobs posting lies and frightening people.

This repositioning by Zuckerberg has no sincerity in it. It doesn’t fit with anything he has stood for.

It’s 100% a Trump effect. Of which we are going to see a lot more. The sooner we distance ourselves from American owned social media the better. It’s become toxic.

Frightening people was fine when it was the government doing the frightening.
How do you judge sincerity from a few lines? By using the same critical facilities which predicted a Harris win and a prison sentence for Trump presumably.

Pointing out the consequences of Covid wasn’t frightening people! It was being honest and straightforward in ways that ensured that the people acted together in their mutual best interests.

Frightening people was spreading misinformation and over stating the possible side effects. Every medical intervention having side effects! What needed to be emphasised was the balance between risk and benefit. One where getting vaccinated was hugely victorious. That a few nut jobs believed this nonsense and continue to promulgate it is really shameful.

I don’t judge sincerity from a few lines. Musk doesn’t do a few lines. Although on reflection he might, and that could explain things.

I still predict prison for Trump, if he survives, or isn’t sectioned.

Matt Hancock's statement that they should "scare the pants off of everybody" wasn't very honest or straightforward.
Musk's recreational habits are an unknown but with his money are unlikely to be a few pints down the pub.

Hancock was just one of those involved and he took the view, at the time he said that, that an extreme approach was needed. Not for his benefit! For ours! It was very straightforward and actually honest too if that’s what he believed was necessary.

From a video clip I saw Hancock did take an extreme approach for his own benefit and it had nothing to do with Covid 😏

What a surprise. This is the man who thought it was necessary to get hold of a co-worker in an office. His judgement might not have been the best.
