Censorship and Social Media

It’s been a passion of mine for some time that we need to ban religion from all schools and public life.
the French have been trying that for at least a hundred years. However the pushback has been phenomenal.

Northern Ireland would have greatly benefited from secular-only schools from at least a hundred years ago.

now getting back to the OP, Censorship & freedom of speech. What Palace player got into trouble for writing Jesus onto his rainbow armband ?

Too late for that now Islam has been allowed and effectively encouraged to grow and be practiced every bl00dy where. Baggage check in at Gatwick. Need a place to pray facing East? Sure, he’s a room for you. Borough of Newham. High unemployment. I wonder why. Drove through the Arab area of London near Edgware Road this week. Loads of women in Burkas. Shouldn’t be surprised. They’re in the south of the Croydon borough as well.

The country is fvcked. It’s far too late to start laying down the law on religion.

We can learn from the French experience but the underlying principle is sound.

Religious beliefs that teach love and acceptance are fine. People can work together for the benefit of all. So many don’t though. They claim an exclusive access to the truth.

Katharine Birbalsingh has banned Muslim prayers in her successful Michaela School and received bomb and death threats as expected.

She’s a brave woman and doesn’t give a sh1t. She makes all her kids sing the national anthem in her school in Wembley, of course an Asian and black area of Brent. But this is a successful, high attaining school. It would be a different outcome in a school and area of low attainment.

It’s never too late to expect that everyone who chooses to live here does so on our terms. That doesn’t mean they must abandon their religion. It just means that everyone shows respect and tolerance.

If we expect every young citizen to be taught that then that’s what they should be taught.

Such a move would command widespread support across the political divides and isolate the extremes.

No chance in high Muslim areas. You’ll be in hiding before half term.

Correction: before the first Saturday of Autumn term.

So we should teach kids to be respectful and tolerant of anything except intolerance?
No. What I actually said was that we need to teach them tolerance and respect. That doesn’t imply that whatever others do deserve it. Only that if it does then the kids must know how to respect and tolerate it, turning their backs on religious dogma and opening their hearts and minds.

What you actually said was: "Teaching respect and tolerance to all has nothing political about it." As usual, it is pie in the sky nonsense.

You are a defeatist.

It’s hard and would see many setbacks but it can be done.

Teaching all our children to think for themselves is the first step.

And they are our children.
And when any criticism of the way these people live within their belief is smashed by the law there is no chance. You are living in a strange head place if you really believe this can happen.
