Ben Doak

Sorry to piss on the party, but if this kid is such a prodigy and worth £22m at his age, then why are Liverpool selling him? If he was that good they would surely be nurturing him for the first team?
They done us up on Benteke and Sakho. Martin Kelly was the only decent deal we have done with Liverpool in a generation.
Was thinking the same myself especially with the uncertainty of Salah will he wont he sign a new contract . The only thing i can think of is the ffp , looks like they are trying to off load Harvey Elliot also , or maybe making room for another superstar . Good profit from him also i think they paid 600k for him .

They royally did Sheffield Utd over with Rhian Brewster too!
It's an odd thing that, with few exceptions, Liverpool's stars seldom thrive away from there. Rush, Fowler, Coutinho, for example, were never as good when they left. Maybe they're just good judges of the right time to move them on and they aren't under much pressure to sell players they want to keep.

Solanke's an exception but it took a while for him to throw off the Liverpool curse.

McManaman and Javi Alonso did alright.
although they do appear to be the exception to the rule. perhaps you can only go to Real Madrid from Liverpool ?

No they didn't as they didn't force us to buy them. If anything we "done ourselves up"
and to be fair at the time neither looked like bad buys. Benteke had a brilliant first season for us. His goals probably kept us up which may have paid for his transfer in itself. Clearly it went downhill after that. Sakho had been our best player on loan and again looked like a good purchase all be it even then it looked a touch costly

Allardyce got our wingers to cross - he scored, genius Pardew played them on the wrong wing so they cut inside - he didn't score.

Reading the bits from people “in the know” online I saw one (maybe Alan Nixon) saying that we wanted to sign Doak now and esse would be signed and join us in the summer.

It’s probably the first time I’ve actually thought we were properly preparing for a player leaving. Doak being olise replacement and esse replacing eze in the summer.

Now is this the board and dougie now actually having a list of players for each position rather than what seemed to be a scatter gun approach we have seen most summers.

Let’s see what happens at lwb

Benteke only played for a few months under Pardew and he did score ok from memory. Then Big Sam came in. It was after Roy took over that Benteke really struggled but did have a good half a season under him in Covid empty stadiums.
