Ben Doak

Wondering if we've made a rod for own back with the success of Eze, Olise, Wharton and Guehi. Teams know that if we see something in these players they're probably going to increase in value and hike the price up.

Maybe or maybe Liverpool can point to their record of developing young players into very good EPL performers. TAA, Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez are all very good. They may be thinking they don’t want to sell somebody for £20 who could be worth three times that in a couple of years.

Or maybe we have pulled a fast one, everyone thinks we wont him, and we are after someone else, that would be very clever, hang on a minute 🤔

This is my feeling: he won't want a permanent move. At a guess, we could sign the goalie we're linked to, terminate Turner's loan, and get Doak on loan until the end of the season. Guehi to join them either now or at end of season. Just guessing.
Turner going would open another loan possibility.

Well I think when it comes to us dealing with Liverpool they've historically had us over a barrel anyway. Reckon we're still owed compensation after paying £60m for Benteke and Sakho!

I don't know much about Doak but I do know about signing players from Liverpool and therefore I hope Palace are sensible this time and walk away when the asking price escalates into the unreasonable. The last time we had value for money from that club was when we signed Peter Wall !

In terms of alternatives, James McAtee is one that I like. Could be another Cole Palmer type of departure from City. Although Pep was praising him at the weekend so maybe now reluctant to sell him.

I don't mind addons if they are sensible e.g. appearance or goals scored.

I reckon £22m tops for Doak. He’s good but still unproven at Premiership level so that is more than enough.. Liverpool have form for screwing us over price wise so we need to be prepared to walk away and demonstrate we’re no soft touch.

We also don’t want this to distract us from getting some back-up for Mitchell. I shudder to think what happens if we do nothing on the wing-back front and he gets injured. One thing is certain, Parish and Freedman would have big wet faces.

I'm not sure that Doak is worth anywhere near £30 million right now.

Certainly not right now but question is will he be? I wonder what we can agree as add ons. Other rumours are esse is £12m and job £20m so 2 for 1 if that is the case. A decision for the club to make
Esse has Palace written all over him. I'd avoid inflated prices from the big clubs.

However they are valuing him on potential. Not hard to imagine that IF he comes in to our first team and performs he'll be worth 30m by the summer

Wharton probably wouuld have been a 50m player after getting the Euros squad

Wonder what his potential value would be if he was actually a Middlesbrough player.

He is unproven in the Prem. Talk of potential is just a selling tactic. If he had that much, they wouldn't be open to offers.

A sensible price or look elsewhere. We got Bolasie, Eze, Olise and Wharton for relative peanuts. Even Guehi was only £20 million or so.

Unproven in the prem, well yeas, but standing out in the Championship at 19 and at international level is a pretty good sign he'll be able to make the step up.

Or course 'potential' is a selling tactic, but if you weren't paying a premium for potential all championship players would have a very low ceiling.

Bolasie was signed for peanuts, Olise had a clause, the other were all bought for more than our initial Doak offer.

No was I can see us going to 30m. But 20'ish with some add ons, sell ons might be closer to agreeable.

Not that this means anything but looking at Eze, Guehi and Wharton... all had a market value of approx half of what we ended up paying for them. So we paid for potential. Luckily for ud, in all those cases market value is now way above purchase price
